What is a White Knight?

It's not often that the original meaning of one of my threads gets changed, and I find myself more curious about what changed it in the first place haha. Seriously, the comments made me chuckle quite a bit. Thanks for brightening up my Friday

Much like toxic and elitist, I feel like the words are thrown around way too easily.

Entitlement too, I see that word thrown around so much to the point of getting sick when its mentioned.

Since we became a society of labels, so many words have been bent, twisted and their original meanings have been lost and forgotten and definitions made up on the fly for them to whatever suits whatever's purpose. These words basically mean now "Hey I see you doing something differently then me or like something I don't or disagree with me so I'm gonna throw labels at you to try and shame you into thinking and acting like how I do. BE MAH CLONE!!"

Seriously, what even is the right definition of a White Knight?

It means the EXACT SAME THING as these words: "SJW", Troll, "PC", Griefer, and so many others.

The definition is simple: Person the poster doesn't agree with but lacks the ability to argue against.

The REAL definition of White Knight: Someone who defends everything a company does, no matter what they do, to the point where even the murder and consumption of babies would receive a positive spin ("The devs have to eat too, you know").

The COMMON definition of White Knight: Someone who disagrees with you, especially when you're arguing from a sensationalist position with plenty of emotion, but very little substance.

The CURRENT FFXIV definition of White Knight: Someone who doesn't label the new app as P2W*.

There is such a thing as a White Knight, but I don't think I've ever seen the phrase misused more often than here on the O-forums.

I saw someone said "entitled" has been misused just as much as well, but if I need to be honest... I am trying very hard to avoid calling people this (as some of their posts sound like SE should cater to their every whim and that "trying to fix a problem" is not good enough).

It is pay to win, if your goal is to be a market baron. Being able to access your retainers and AH while at work is pretty big. Thankfully that's only a tiny portion of the base, and gil is not needed to progress really.

The frustration is that it never ends here.

If they do that “like they’ve done with the marketboard” then it would mean paying coins to do those through the app instead of doing it for free in game. Your choice would be playing as you always have, or paying extra to do them outside of the game.

Certainly they could overdo it, but I’m not worrying yet. They’re charging for convenience on a very small corner of the game. I’m neither excited or bothered by it at this point.

Yeah, I'm largely neutral on the thing now. Granted I don't like it, so I'm in the boat of I'm just not going to have anything to do with it since it has no effect on me as of now. The only thing that will really push me is if a time comes when/if SE starts putting in APP premium exclusive content in the game. Content developed only for APP use that can also have an impact in the game even to those that don't use the app at all.
