In FFXIII-2 at the menu, there's an option to summarize each chapter for FFXIII. Although that's probably not reassurance, but the closer to the end you get in FFXIII, the more gaps you'll probably be able to fill in.

I figured as much, but in my weird little world, I have to beat the first game myself before I can play the second. It's not about not knowing what happened in the game before, that's easy to look up, it's just one of my peeves I guess.
"Ul'dah can keep their dusty markets, and their streets paved in silver and gold.
Limsa Lominsa keep your pirates, and your ships covered in musty mold.
My loyalty lies with Gridania, with the Moogles and the tree spirits of old." -The Forky Conjurer

IMO, the game is pretty good, it makes me think of both Chrono Trigger (the time travel aspect), and Xenosaga (Academia 4XX AF). As far as characters go, I'm a little shocked that I like Hope now, he went from total loser to resident badass scientist and aspiring time lord. I think SE has a winner here.

I can't believe what I'm reading in this thread, how could you even compare a masterpiece like chrono trigger to XIII-2? After XIII I would rather burn my money than buy XIII-2, wasn't the worst game I've ever played but it was the worst final fantasy.
Sure gameplay seems slightly improved based on the demo but the story/script/acting are all still atrocious. It's like a bad combination between a cartoon and a soap opera.
SE needs to do whatever it takes to bring back Hironobu Sakaguchi, every FF he didn't have a role in seems to have sucked big time.

Yeah well this maybe the best FF game since FF7, not even kidding.I can't believe what I'm reading in this thread, how could you even compare a masterpiece like chrono trigger to XIII-2? I love the game so far. It is sad that reviewers can't review it as an RPG itself and not basing it from a game they were not fond of.
It was quite funny seeing all the perfects and rave reviews from Japanese critics, then the usual bull from western reviewers because they disliked FFXIII lol.
I perfectly called that would happen.

i put quite some hours in mine today and i gotta say i really enjoy it, even caught some rare monsters for my party already haha albino lobo ftw!
oh and in case someone has the dlc code for noels Muramasa weapon, you dont get it at the start of the game, you have to buy it from chocolina for 0 gil when you see her the first time, that is the same for all dlc weapons
i didnt knew that when i was starting and was wondering if its broken
Yeah ok. Did you play XIII-2? Beat it with all endings? Understand the story and the exact reason people compare it to Chrono Trigger/Cross? I'll tell you this, it's not because you can time travel. That's only part of it.
My point wasn't that they don't have a reason to compare them, my point was that one was one of the best games of all time and the is nowhere close.
It's like comparing section 8 to the original goldeneye.
