I think knowing the previous story does in fact benefit the player
At the very least, go through the Beginner Primers. They are fairly well done.

Just recently started playing XIII to get a refresher on the story. *It's really confusing for the first few hours or so, unless you are playing it again.*
Then i plan to get cracking on XIII-2.

So thoughts anyone? I've been playing for 2 days non stop now and SE did fantastic job. Definitely more fun than XIII.

Damn UK release being the 3rd Feb >.>, Amazon sent mine in the post this morning so I'll be playing it tomorrow![]()

Nice! I bet you cant wait! I opted to take the trip upto my local game store where i preordered to pick it up in the morning, Amazon have a knack of being unable to deliver games on release day with me.
Hope you enjoy the game! I know i will![]()

Nice, do you get the Pre-order bonus DLC with that? (the weapons and outfits), Amazon should deliver it fine, they're sorting office is only about 25 miles from me![]()

I can't wait to get mine. I preordered, but got free shipping, so I should get it tomorrow or saturday. I've been replaying FFXIII in the meantime. I maintain that the fun part was the fast paced story driven part and not the wide open part I need to grind on that I'm in right now. I almost want to stop playing and just go straight to ffxiii-2 because this is so boring...
From what I saw of the demo, FFXIII-2 is better in every conceivable way. Hopefully that, along with FFXIV's relaunch, will help rehabilitate SE's image.

You know I wasn't big on the XIII battle system that relied on paradigm shifting more than use of specific spells, but XIII-2 is proving I that it is in fact very viable, fun and still strategic. I still turn my default menu to Abilities though. Auto-battle might be possible to win the game sure, but you sure won't roll through optional content that way.I can't wait to get mine. XIII-2 is very enjoyable. I take back what I said about X-2 and SE's ability to make a quick turnaround sequel-story too.

No spoilers here from me.
I wasn't too fond of the pacing of FFXIII. And so far, not too fond of *some* of the pacing in FFXIII-2. A short chapter book that came with my copy helped as an epilogue to FFXIII.
I AM however, extremely pleased with the music and the game mechanics.

Still waiting until I can stop playing XIV long enough to finish XIII before I can even look at XIII-2
