    Kicking afk player from dungeon

So, we were in a dungeon yesterday. At the start of the dungeon this player complained ''oh i hate this dungeon''. After the first boss he suddenly became afk, like 2-3 min he didn't return. We came to the 2nd boss and i used vote dismiss for afk to kick this person. The other dps said ''don't! wait we are together here'' but tank already pressed yes to vote kick and the afk player was dismissed. I said ''say something before going afk, just for you know, being polite.'' he said ''you don't kick someone who is afk for a few min''. and i said ''i can't know something that hasn't said. say you are going afk for a few min and no one will kick you.''

I just want opinions about being afk randomly in dungeons and how to react to those. Idk, if i was right or they were tbh.

Says they need to AFK for a bit = no kick
Says nothing and just suddenly goes afk and they haven't been back for quite a bit = kick

This is the rule I follow.

Same. Be courteous to your fellow party members and most of the time, they will be courteous back to you. Don't feel bad about your situation, OP. Maybe they had something serious going on, but they also need to keep in mind that if the other party members have no idea what's going on, they'll just assume afk, especially when they start off the dungeon by saying they hate a particular instance.

This. Likewise if I queue with a friend and an emergency comes up that rips me away longer than I expected, I'll send them a message on discord asking them to let the party kick me outright if I know it'll take longer than ten minutes to resolve. It sucks, especially if I queued as DPS, but I'm not about to waste the time of other people simply for my convenience. When it comes to solo-queuing I'll just apologize if I simply think it'll take too long and leave the party. I'd rather they get a chance to refill the slot than wait on me.

If they're afk I would generally use <se.1> or something to get their attention before doing a vote kick. If it's a friend of someones, they should return and you won't need to worry about it. I haven't seen a friend just bail out because they hated the dungeon, that just creates a bad image.

well i usually say something before i go afk. The one time i couldn't say anything was because we had a real health emergency all of a sudden and i was instant afk. If you are going to the bathroom or grabbing something to drink, eat etc. normal irl stuff, i expect people to say simple 3 letters only: brb.

it shouldn't be too hard to type

Emergencies happen. Emergency bathroom, Emergency pet/child/spouse injures themselves or starts vomiting/bleeding, package at the door, something's burning, apartment's on fire, Pizza delivery is here, pet needs to toilet, etc.

Of these, most have an opportunity to at least say "AFK", but some things like, emergency toilet/vomit doesn't wait (eg allergies), so you never really know.

More to the point though, if the AFK'er is a DPS, you can continue until they come back. If they are the healer, you're stuck. You can typically continue without the tank until you get to the boss if you have an appropriately geared healer or a DPS has a tank pet. So you get a little more leeway for AFK as long as you're not the healer.

well like i said, my sister was almost dying last year in the middle of the night so i had to be afk in instant. but i didnt return like 4-5 hours. I can understand those situations but still this other person was with him and he kept playing and knew what was going on and they said nothing anyways.

Every player is different on how they approach certain situations. Not saying what you're doing is wrong or anything either. Tolerance, is what you'll need when you play with random players or it'll just eat away at you. You'll most likely encounter players with different personalities, but that's pretty much a part of MMOs. In short, don't let it get to you.

If they dont say anything then I just kick as soon as we have downtime.

It's 1 kick, they'll get over it. They have no wait time into getting back into a dungeon. If it's not critical (ie they can return in a timely manner) then they should be just as capable of typing "afk brb" or something like that. Even a bunch of "wadsddsad" is enough for me to take pause for a kick. Just something.

    But absolutely nothing? Kick.
