    [dev] Magic Sword

    Was talking with some friends the other night about what could be added from previous FF games and "Magic Sword" came up. When I say magic sword, I mean FF9 style where Vivi powers up Steiner's sword, which then unleashes a powerful elemental attack (Details).

    When I consider what it could be like in FFXIV, I imagine a mage class (thaum or con with respective elements) nuking another melee character, giving that character the ability to do some good elemental damage for a single attack or short time (not talking FFXI en-spells here). It would need to be implemented in a way that all classes enjoy the strategy, for instance:
    1. CON/THM nukes another character, giving them said elemental power up
    2. Nuked player performs an attack (auto, or WS?) that performs extra elemental damage
    3. Nuked player receives enmity for most or all of the damage

    A lot of these idea threads are pretty stupid (and something like this might be coming back with battle regimens?), but I was curious what other people thought.

    They use a fire arrow in the opening scene against the marbol. Basically the same thing you're asking. And yes, I'd love to see a class dedicated to this as well. Would be fun to play as it would likely benefit the player and the target much more if the spells are coordinated to go off with the target's weapon skill. Anything that makes fights more tactical is a plus in my book.

    I thought the opening scene showed an ARC getting buffed that added flame to the arrow..

    Well, sorry my terminology wasn't 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure that anyone that has seen the opening CS would have known what I was referring to.

    For a second I thought you meant an invisible ghost (assumed) wielding a visible floating sword that you must defeat. But I like your idea too.

    I pitched this thread about 6 months ago.

    Thread was titled Magic Knight or Rune Knight with some examples of how class mechanics could work.

    Recieved no negative feedback or trolling from this community (which is rare), so the players must think its a good idea.
