Sounds like the mage class "Animator" is in order. Arcane master, skilled in the arts of animating or embueing inanimate objects with arcane magics.

considering this is in the opening movie with the archer and mage, I still have no idea why its not in the game. Also what was that weird bubbly spell the chick casted on the boat ride to limsa liminsa? Thats not in the game....... ALL LIES!

I want the shield spell so much. I've already talked about it in other threads so much.

I'd love for something like this. They got easily give this to the Bard job.
After reading what their view was on spellcasting, I couldn't see them making a class that just focuses on buffing/debuffing. So in this case, they'd have to make these attacks really strong and do something other than just buffing a friend.
I was almost getting a vibe from Final Fantasy Advanced Tactics 2. The spellblade would imbue her attacks with a debuff. Like she would cover her sword in oil and "oil" down the target, which would make them extremely weak to the next fire based attack. Or she would slow them, put them to sleep, poison them. You catch my drift. It would be a great way to bring in a DD debuffer class.

Battle Mage!!!!
point is add that sh*t!

It needs to be something that requires cooperation between party members, and something that offers enough of a reward (i.e. damage, enmity redirection) to be worth using.
For instance on Thaum, with any reasonably good gear/materia equipped, it is very easy to pull hate off tanks. You can either pace yourself (boring, but effective), or you could have another option that allows you help the tank do more damage and keep things under control at a damage/mp tradeoff.
EDIT: For the FFXI players, remember being 37ish and doing SATA+skillchain on the tank? The damage was good, and the tank had it much easier. The cost was cooperation between players.

Account deactivated. Holding out for Guild Wars 2.

I feel like the combo system in place actually lends itself really well to this idea.
Thinking along the lines of...
>Thaumaturge targets Gladiator with Thunder Spell.
>Lightning effect goes off around the Gladiator's sword - he now has a combo timer activated (similar to when doing a self combo).
>Gladiator then has that 10 second time period to perform a weapon skill (Specific? Any?) that will have the added damage and effect of thunder.
Simple and uses a system that already in place.
