I will put it this way.....pld should be the tank that takes more damage from the boss, now we have bosses that autoattacks the second tank as well, if the ot has to take damage and do other things, pld has to be in that spot.

Pld has less burst that war but in most situation has more uptime that war thanks to the hit range from holy spirit.

In my opinion, each tank needs an individual identity. However, this identity should not make a tank locked into either MT or OT.

    There is no MT/OT.
WAR will probably always generate more emnity than PLD and lose less for switching from tank stance to dps stance.
So, the best option is to let the WAR pull (for the last 3+ years).
This doesn't make WAR the "MT", it's just random pug groups don't know how to utilize provoce and shirk.

PLD also has cover and Intervention. How do you utilize that to its fullest potential (free mitigation), if you are "MT'ing" the boss?

Susano ex: PLD actually makes a good MT here for Hallowed Ground on first Stormsplitter, but WAR obviously pulls first for optimal DPS and aggro gain (even if it's not needed at all). Has good tank swaps.
Lakshmi ex: PLD best OT, no tank swaps needed.
Shinryu ex: PLD best OT, only tanks for a minimal amount of time between invuln Ahk Mourns and Terra Slashes.
Byakko ex: PLD best OT, tank swaps minimal amount of time.

This is the problem. I shouldn't have to build a static to go out of the way to play sub optimally with PLD MT'ng.
First and foremost, pugs are a terrible benchmark. Most average groups play sub-optimally in numerous ways.

v5s: PLD should swap when WAR gets marked for proximity, thus allowing it to buff Shake with Vengeance and Raw while PLD has everything available to mitigation busters.
v6s: Goddess does substantially more damage than Demon. PLD can also handle both Last Kisses and Cover melee DPS during prey, thus allowing them to stay on the boss.
v7s: Only PLD and DRK can effectively tank both Guardian and Dada/Bib using their respective immunities.
Clown: There is absolutely no reason both tanks shouldn't split who takes Hyperdrives.

The only fight where WAR tends to hold the boss frequently is God Kefka due how Wings of Destruction works. That being said, swaps remain better since WAR can Onslaught back in.

MT/OT is a dead concept in the same sense MH/OH died off. If you're only going to have one tank actually tank, just bring five DPS.
