An open letter to the fine creators of our game world:

Give me the power of my convictions, my choices, my perseverance. These things are not measured in damage done but the simple act of showing up despite a life that drags me away. When I was in pain I still came. When I went blind I still came. What I achieved wasn’t measured in tomes or iLvls. Keep your trinkets. All that ever mattered was the journey, the steps taken not the damage dealt. The true value of a person isn’t quantified by what toys they wear or wield but where they stand and who stands with them.

Keep your Eurekas, your roulettes, your artifacts so fleeting and frail. I have no use for them. They are distractions, annoyances, a waste of my precious time. Instead, reward my long years of loyalty with purpose, with meaning, with choices to make along a path of destiny. I don’t demand success. I don’t demand the power to level mountains. What is success if it comes easily other than mediocrity? What is power if nothing useful is achieved? I have endured a life of hardship simply to be here, don’t waste my time with distractions and charletry.

The best things you have done are also the hardest. The story doesn’t write itself, the ink refuses to fill the painting without the artist’s suffering hand. I know this, yet it is what is expected of you. You must challenge yourselves to rise above the appeasement of those that seek mere power to fill your creation with meaning if you are to continue to receive my faith and my loyalty. Though I have persevered and returned year after year don’t take me for granted.

I am but one small voice in a sea of chatter and do not expect to be heard. Like a whisper in a hurricane these words will fly away and join the cacophony, lost and forgotten. That is fine. No one expects to change the world alone--no one sane, that is. But sometimes small things said by small people do echo and reverberate. Perhaps this will, too.

Give me the power of my convictions, my choices, my perseverance, for they are all I can afford to give to you.
