Well I've never played an elezen, so can't say for certain, but I would imagine they wouldn't have any issues with clipping as they don't have any parts that would lend themselves to clipping. I used to play a lalafell with the pointiest ear type that slants upward and noticed that on some hats the tips of the ears would clip though, but I don't see you having that problem with the elezen as his ears go straight out and don't tilt up.
The clipping issue you've shown with your aura would definitely bother me. If that's the style of gear you like then I would say switch races.
Also, you've said that if you do decide to change you are going to use the fantasia that came with the collectors edition, so I'm not sure if you've gotten there yet, but you also get a free fantasia at the end of the ARR questline. So if you change to elezen and hate it, you can always change back with the second free fantasia.
I've not encountered any clipping issues with Elezen ears (headgear for the most part is designed to adapt to Elezen/Miqo'te/Lalafell ears). Most gear is fine with horns also, but as you've seen you will have troble with body pieces that have very high collars.
Elezen don't have clipping due to their faces/ears. They have clipping due to long hair, but then that's just long hair in general. Black mage is the main sufferer of high collar clipping with white mages next. Thankfully post ARR they stopped making robes with hoods attached to them. You can also glamour any hats and robes that you encounter this problem with to ones where it doesn't happen. Sadly male Au Ra are hard to dress even with glamour where they look fantastic while still going for the style/look they want. My FC is full of them.
Oh really I get another one. That's good to know thanks. Makes me not have to worry to much if i don't like my Elezen later.
Your Elezen looks very original compared to most and would be more ideal if you like looking different from the rest of them. My only gripes with Elezen is the ear "socks" they add to helmets for their ears, even if you shorten the ears, they still add them. Also, the way they move is very off putting. I like to walk or run with the weapon drawn, so I don't get the Elezen movements. Other than that, Elezen are cool to run as, as there are only a few of us in the game compared to other races. Only Roegadyn are more rarer.
yeah I like a more experienced look for my characters, hate doing the same old young adventurer look everyone goes for, only exception is if I'm making myself in the game, but I usually don't do that.
The only issue Elezens have with helmets/hoods/anything that covers our ears is that there’s only one preset to ear length. Meaning, if you make an Elezen with short, stubby ears, when you put a helmet on it’ll default to a long, pointy ear. It’s one the main reasons why I don’t wear helmets, although hoods aren’t too intrusive. I wish I could show you an example, but I’m at work.
Edit: derp, didn’t read Antonio’s post before making mine. I’ll keep it here to +1 his gripe.
yeah the one I'm looking at making has ears as long as I could make them so that wouldn't be as much of a problem I suppose
Man, I really need to step my game up and buy Heavensward and Stormblood. Missing out on these other jobs and race.
