Saturday morning cartoons in FF14 housing

Hey guys, got a question. I recently purchased a med house in the Goblet about two weeks ago or so. Yesterday I thought I'd walk around and try and check out the neighborhood since Square wants it to be a neighborhood type thing with housing. Upon riding some mounts around I didn't find anyone for a good while, but when I did I waived. I said "Hi" to them with (Say) they just waived. They were in the big circle part where the MB is in the middle, I went to sit down near them "not RIGHT next to them", but in the same vicinity. I waited as they were crafting to let them finish and not interrupt to maybe have a conversation. They then stopped got up and waived bye to me and ran to their house and put two furnishings in front of the door as to block me out. I wasn't trying to follow them in as I could have easily just jumped the fence, but I just let it go. I met couple of other folks and they did the same thing to an extent...Someone just straight up told me "No" All I did was say how's it going? So, my question is, do you guys also experience the same Saturday morning cartoon feeling when in your districts? As in I guess I'm the villain and all the scarred town folks are locking themselves in. I saw a post a while back where people were saying there were rude people treading on their yard or using the striking dummy and stuff. I tried the social thing and I guess I'm just not cool enough? Who knows lol.

My experience with housing wards is that they're largely unnecessary as you rarely run into neighbors, and when you do, there is rarely any conversation to be had.

But as far as the emoting only, it's not much different than just sitting down next to a random person in town and expecting to have decent conversation. Some people may be down for that, probably a good amount will keep it brief.

Have fun with the house though

    Uhm...

*Gets in his house and locks door*

    *From inside*

Not really, because my neighborhood is kinda dead. I only see people either afking in front of the MB; some wandering souls crafting and that's it. I remember when I was in Hyperion when housing was introduced, we used to have some funny convos in shout.

In Balmung, there are events that they run in their houses and pretty much everyone is invited. But in general, the housing districts are dead.

Hmm that's a little crushing, You can always make friends through PF, duties, shouts, or main cities. Was hoping for a different front or whatev, guess I'm weird oh well lol

Despite housing in this game being in the form of wards/neighborhoods, there's very, very little social interaction happening there on most servers. They were initially meant to be FC only which might be why they were designed this way to start. After scrapping what plans (if they had any) for solo player housing, they simply just allowed solo players to purchase houses in wards instead. Whatever social concept they were going for backfired. If you're looking for social interactions, 9 times out of 10 it's not going to happen in any housing ward.

Pretty much the only socializing I see take place, if any shouts are to be had, are Reach, Kugane, and Eureka. The other places are either advertisements for FCs or RMTs.

To be honest: I'd be the person who shuts the door, because I'm just not intrested in that random social interaction with a stranger.
Remind me that this is an MMO, meant to be played with other people all you like, but to me that doesnt mean that I have to engage in smalltalk with a random neighbour at a marketboard, while I'm most likely just checking the price for something to craft before semi-afk crafting said piece.
Or while I'm already in a conversation with friends/FC/LS.

Its not personal and I assume its not in their case either, but they obviously dont have to talk to you - and at least I prefer not to have some chatter-smalltalk with a stranger when I've actually got stuff to do around my house.

I just moved into a medium house in mist, and met the person that owns the large behind me, he runs his own FC and owns the small vacant plot beside me, most likely to save his view being blocked from his large FC house I assume; he was more than happy to have us explore his FC and even tried teaching us how to use the jump glitch to get on his roof lol I also live right beside my partner and my two in game best friends so the neighbourhood already feels very comfortable

Socializing in my area of shirogane is basically nonexistant. When personals reopened some guy bought the house in front of mine only to squat on it. Permanently locked and yard never furnished. I never see neighbors almost at all.

I'm not exactly a chatterbox that waves to nearby people but then again there's never anyone to do that with in the first place.

As I've said there is no real need for wards as interaction is practically nonexistent in most wards and when there is some it isn't uncommon for it to be a creepy experience. Since I've owned my house I've seen no more than a few players in my ward and like me they were just checking the MB or on their way to an aetherite. I've waved with sometimes a wave back or nothing at all. I just leave it at that. I did have one case where I was gardening and sat down to take a break. Some random came in the yard and practically sat on my lap without saying a word. I got up to go inside and they follow me to the door. As my house was private at that time that's as far as it went but it was creepy. As an aside I've been playing another game recently and just bought a house. No waiting and I had a choice of multiple styles within my price range. Of course it is instanced but has a nice courtyard and patio.
