GO TO PLAY FFXI , FFXI is a very old style game, FFXIV have to compete with brand new mmo like, SW , Tera, GW2 , and more, you can't use the same old and tedious mechanic of XI in this game... Idk why ppl that still loves XI complain.. go to play it no? And let the dev make a completely NEW and FRESH game unlike anyone else.

Some ppl want gear switch too lol.. this is one of the worst thing of xi (but it WAS ok for an old game.. ) it completely ruins the balance of the battles.. Equip should be studied before you engace a combat, every new mmo do this, and even Tanaka that build XIV a disastrous game understood this aspect in time (luckly ) .
Here is the problem. FFXI's style of gameplay is in no way outdated, and can transition to a newer MMO. Only some things here and there that would have to adjust to the new generation (ex. EXP reduction upon death.). We compare it to FFXI because the way this game is set up works more with FFXI's system than it does with other MMO's like WoW. While FFXIV can derive ideas from other MMO's, it best works with mechanics that FFXI practiced, and a lot of your players are FFXI vets and best compare with such. We don't want FFXI, we want it's success, we want a new world with a sense of familiarity.

People came on expecting expecting SE to take what was good about FFXI and make it better in FFXIV. The exact opposite of that happened. When Blizzard releases Project Titan, do you honestly believe it won't derive from WoW's system? I am doubting it. It will take what was successful about WoW and transition it into that game. Know why? Because your main customer base will more than likely be WoW players.

Like I said before, transition of success and familiarity into a new world. Each FF has taken what was successful about the previous one and improved upon it. FF3 improved over FF1 by adding a Job system into the mix, but had your classic turn based system. FFVII improved over FFVI by going into the 3D world. Now let me ask, why can't FFXIV take what was succesful about FFXI and now put it into FFXIV? A lot of people fall under this ideology, and SE now understands that, slowly becoming what FFXI was able to create.

FFXIV will never succeed over games like WoW and SW:TOR, it isn't happening. SE even before the release of FFXIV said they were not looking to overthrow any popular MMO's, they simply wanted to stay within the competition. This meaning it is better to focus on your niche group while staying in the new generation at the same time. How does FFXIV succeed plan to succeed at the time? That is right, they built it from the ground up. They took no lessons from FFXI and made it from scratch, which granted it one of the worst major MMO titles ever released. Know why? Because the niche audience you were trying to please was pissed that the game was such in a horrible state and used almost no concepts from FFXI into their game. You pissed off your niche audience by a poor attempt to appeal to western customers.

The current team understands where their customers come from. They know now the best way to make FFXIV good is bringing over that transition of success from FFXI and actually improve it like everyone said it should of been done. From the looks of it, it is happening. They are bringing in a cross-server dungeon finder system, large scale PvP (improving over Ballista), making a stronger guild system, and so on.

I can explain all day, but we are done with FFXI. We put our time into it, a lot of us are ready to move on into the future. FFXIV is our future, and we know SE is better than what FFXIV originally was, which is another reason we want FFXI's concepts in here. We know it works for them.
