What is the max number of retainers?

I'm sorry to ask such a simple question, but I'm legitimately having a difficult time finding a solid answer. I'm mostly asking because I read that you can have up to 10 retainers. When I go to my account on mogstation, I see the option to purchase up to 7 additional retainers. With the base 2 the game give you, that's 9.

So can players have up to 9 retainers at max?

You get 2 basic retainers for free and can pay for 8 extra I believe, so 10 total.

You get 2 retainers for free and can pay a subscription for up to 7 more via the mogstation for a total of 9. Once the companion app is released then you will also be able to pay for subscription to it that allows you to pay for 1 more retainer subscription on the mogstation for a total of 10. Yes, that last sentence is as stupid as it sounds.

With subscription 2 , with additional content fees raise to 9, with up coming app and premium membership will raise to 10. Not as stupid as it sounds and worth it if you know how to manage them properly.

It is as stupid as it sounds. You pay a subscription in order to be able to pay for another additional subscription which can only be taken advantage of if you're already paying the max subscription cost otherwise.

Just like previous retainers, it's OPTIONAL you don't have to. On top of that extra storage / moogle helpers / and administration options are not a bad deal. While it may sound stupid to some, it's not a bad deal for others who can use it to the fullest. So yeah stupid to you perhaps, nice to me. If a player can afford it why not?

It's not whether you can afford it or not. It's the fact that it's a subscription for the privilege of paying for another subscription but only if you're already maxed on subscriptions. It's a stupid way to set up a money grab.

So yes, it is that stupid.

I don't mind the app having a premium option. But that option should: INCLUDE the extra retainer, not just allow you the option to buy more. And also not give you an upper hand in playing the market with the kupo nut currency.

It's just the $5 no? I didn't see anything about needing another $2.
