    Chocobo saddlebag requirements

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the full requirements for unlocking the Chocobo Saddlebag are? I can't find a single mention of what is actually required for it aside from the patch notes stating "Unlocking the companion feature also grants access to the chocobo saddlebag." I have the ability to summon my chocobo to fight alongside me in battle on my alt, but still don't have access to it and the only thing I can think of is it being level locked, or that I'm missing some other side quest.

That's the tl;dr version. More details follow...

I started playing an alt yesterday for kicks who I created a year or two ago and was already level 15 and had progressed to the point in the MSQ of just before unlocking Sastasha. I got the notification when logging in about the saddlebags being a new inventory option, so I dismissed it and went to check my bags. I wasn't able to open them, but I didn't think anything of it at the time since I didn't actually have my chocobo yet.

I worked my way through the MSQ eventually earning my GC, buying a chocobo, unlocking being able to summon the chocobo in battle, reaching level 30 and unlocking my Job. Not necessarily in that order. The MSQ I am currently on is "Ziz is So Ridiculous" https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/w..._So_Ridiculous. I still have no chocobo saddlebag access and I checked after each of the above milestones. I even tried checking both right before summoning my chocobo for the first time after finishing the "My Feisty Little Chocobo Quest" and right after summoning it to see if that triggered it. I even tried logging in and out at that point. Nothing. And yes, I'm aware you can only use the saddlebags in certain zones. I've accounted for that already.

Because I was powering through the MSQ in order to get my Job and chocobo, I skipped over all side-quests unless they were marked with the blue marker indicating they unlocked something, and for those ones I picked and chose which to do. E.g. I didn't take the housing area unlock quests or any of the class change quests, but I took anything related to travel or glamour.

(One side note that may or may not be related... Shortly after I tried opening my saddlebag for the first time after logging in I typed an "/isearch dye" command and I got a list of 6 different dyes. I could only see two dye stacks at a glance in my actual inventory, so to figure out where they might be I clicked randomly on one of them to get a more specific search. The search message I got went something like "You were able to find 2 snow white dye in the first tab of your inventory, and 6 snow white dye in the second tab of ????'s inventory." With the actual question marks shown. I didn't think to take a screenshot for some reason. I didn't have retainers yet, and obviously hadn't put anything into a saddlebag since the last time I had logged in on this alt was months ago. Now when I do an "/isearch dye" in only shows the two dyes stacks that I actually have without the extra ???? and their inventory.)

The saddlebags are a separate inventory pane from the normal inventory. I don't remember having to do anything in particular to unlock them, just push the hotkey associated with them (I like shift+I).

As for your mystery dyes... I'm thinking aliens.

Well, the mystery continues. I left my alt logged in afking overnight, and when I checked in the next day they were able to access the saddlebags. Nothing had changed on my end in that time. I literally checked access one last time right before going afk for bed and wasn't able to access them, and when I checked again immediately after coming back from being afk I was able to access them. I'm glad it fixed itself, but I'm definitely confused. The only thing that happened to my alt in that time was receiving a novice network invite, which I haven't accepted or declined yet.

You get it when you get your chocobo. You just need to find it in the menu to access it.

This is not what happened to me, if you read above. But thanks for the input.

The afformentioned "companion feature" in "Unlocking the companion feature also grants access to the chocobo saddlebag" refers specifically to the ability to summon your chocobo for combat. The quest is Lv30 "My Feisty Little Chocobo" in Camp Tranquil.
