Any way to get items out of expired retainers?

I used to pay for 2 retainers, but I don't (and can't) anymore. They have a LOT of my items including almost all my tank items. Is there seriously no way to take my items OUT of them even if I cant put anything in anymore? I pay 6 months at a time for the discount and am 2 months in, I need those items but I cant pay for 4 months worth of 2 retainers just to get my stupid items back out.

Am I missing something or is there seriously no way to reclaim my items other than throwing money at se?

You have to pay. With the cost being prorated though, it might be worth waiting until the last day or two before the sub renews and just paying for the 'last part of the month'.

unfortunately yes you have to pay. what's worse is if you have something in retainer 4 you have to pay back for Retainer 3 and 4 . I learned that the same way . and got a lot of my items looked in my 8th retainer and these days I'm trying to put the most important stuff in 1st 2 retainers .
Maybe with 4.3 addition to the dresser - that you can take stuff out of it- I can store so gear there too , even though its kinda limited and out of the 200 slot available I used 130 now -even that I'm not that glam expert-.

Thanks guys, sucks I am locked out of my items for another 4 months, but I will wait for the last day or 2 and pay for them take all my stuff back and cancel again. Really sucks how much stuff is locked away... =/

And yes, the dresser will help a lot, along with the saddlebag. I'm not paying for any more "additional" stuff, tired of them adding more paid inventory services and seeing no new glamour items in holidays instead all being put in the shop.

All of my stuff is on auto-renew, so I'm not sure about whether or not you buy retainers in whatever chunk of time you have on your sub, or if it's by month. If it's by month, you don't have to wait until the end of your sub, just wait until 1-2 weeks before the month rolls over?

When you hire an extra retainer you pay for the amount of time left on your subscription. After that they will renew in the chunks of time as your subscription.

The prorated price will not be less than 1 dollar per retainer, so no reason to wait until the last day or 2 of your sub. Anytime in the last 2 weeks should be good. Also, since you can't 'only' re-hire retainer #4 and skip retainer #3, make sure you hire ALL of you extra retainers at once, otherwise you're wasting money.
Most important thing = CANCEL the retainer subs the minute you get your stuff off of them. Be a shame to forget about that step and get resubbed another whole month on them

Can someone tell me why we even have to pay monthly for retainers anyway? People say it's to pay for the server space they use but even if you stop paying and then renew later, your stuff remains. Which means they're storing that data regardless of if you're paying or not. So.... I'm a bit curious. No other game I know of rents storage like this.

I'd say it for two reasons:
1) To make more money for SE
2) To limit how many people have extra retainers.

A few players having some extra retainers - used or not - won't be a big deal as far as server space is concerned. Lots of players using extra retainers could be a problem for the servers.
SE have said in the past that most players do not pay for any extra retainers.

Soooo.... if everyone bought a retainer once and filled them with cheap 1 gil items and cancelled the subscription it would be bad?
Hmmm................... hmmmmm..... Interesting petition idea.

(Although realistically this may just end up with bad consequences like dropping a retainer sub = losing items, but I don't think people would let that fly)
