For this scenario, My guess would be that the Eikons band together to fight off the Dalamud meteor in some way, but linking it to the geological deformations is a bit tougher. Maybe some sort of Aether "cannon" (not literally) that is controlled by the Eikons in order to prevent Meteor.
This seems like it would be pretty likely too. It would be a total throwback to FFVII, but I think it would still be pretty cool. I imagine that Dalamud will get very close to the world, and then warded off by either the Twelve, or the Primals. Which will naturally warp the world.

Alternatively, has Dalamud been outright stated to be "just" Meteor? I haven't made it through a chunk of the Grand Company storyline, so I thought I would ask.
If it hasn't, I could totally see there being a living entity inside of Dalamud, which will bring about the destruction of Eorzea as we know it. (cue mega boss)

Meteor seems to be the spell on Dalamund. Assuming it's a spell. It's just been described as something that pulls in nearby matter. Kind of like FF7.

I knew the reality Atomos ate instead was the reality in which Eorzea exists. Oh well.

that's the thing though it is level based. right now you can't go back on your other lvl 1 classes to replay the quests. once the story line quest is done it's done. I'm hoping we can replay them but if we can't then we'll have to go from a new character to experience the new content for it. And that's why I'm hoping we can play the new storyline quest.

Everytime someone says 2.0 and map changes, I think of that picture of the anomaly? thing they talked about. The weird spire of earth going straight up. Still has me very curious on wtf is up with that lol. And how Dalamud is going to form that.

It's what I think of too. Whenever I think of map changes since I just redid CoP for a 4th time in FFXI recently I think of landmasses that get destroyed but still present, i.e:

So those ground anamolies could probably be the remnants of magic that created meteor or caused Dal to crash into Eorzea and left over.

In FFIX for example when the Iifa tree revives it sprouts roots everywhere and changes the landscape and access to places, while yes it was done as an excuse to not allow people to travel back on the final disk (like VIII) it still has the same idea of the world changing by an event.
