I don't think it takes place in a parallel dimension but I think it does use a parallel dimension (of some sort) as a way to change the world.

well wouldent it be funny if they did a trailer reveal playing distant worlds theme only to find the world the bard talks about that looks simalair but not. being vanadeil?

i certainly wouldent mind a portal thats takes to a future vanadeil one that hasent or cant be seen from the xi story.

i know it wont happen but im hopeing one day they will make a expansion that takes us back to vanadeil.

He just didn't know how to explain his vision, something like a Nostradamus prophecy. I think the Wandering Minstrel is just talking about how the world is going to change in the future.

That would be too FFV/FFIX/FFXI like, so it's a bad idea sadly since XIV isn't allowed to nod to previous games in the series.

Serious note though, it would be pretty interesting if it happens since FFIX and FFV did it pretty well, especially when the worlds merged (FFV) so they have quite a bit of breathing room. XI did it well with Abyssea because that storyline is while their vana'diel resembled ours it was clearly a different dimension, one where we died at the end of CoP and Al`taieu never slipped out of "present" reality and still on the moon.

There's a ton of possibility with the "parallel world" approach and SE has proven they could make it flow within a timeline and still be coherent quite well.

I had posted a while ago on a character recreation thread something similar. I thought maybe the lore would go the route of a major destructive force causing some sort of rip or portal which when we transported from our current game into 2.0's game world we would be given the option to redesign as a new race. However they could make it a one time thing by claiming the radiation from such a transference would be too harmful to the body to do it again or possibly just a one time transfer from one world to the other. Could work the same way here with a bunch of new buildings/events/stuff appearing through the same rip or portal.

Can't wait to see what they do!

I have no clue I just want to be able to play the new story line when it's available and see what happens... hell I might even make a new character just to see the opening of it when you first start the game...

I was looking over the Ver. 2.0 announcements as well and thinking about the Dalamud Ramifications. So, here's my take:

    1. Dalamud is successfully crashed into Eorzea, causing a period of darkness (say, 1 or 2 generations), and we time skip forward. This would explain how they said we may be able to re-make our characters (think sons or daughters of our current characters). The "Tree" things are actually shards of Dalamud that have been overrun by the flora of the planet.

    2. Something causes Dalamud to be repelled, but also causes the Geological deformations in Eorzea. For this scenario, My guess would be that the Eikons band together to fight off the Dalamud meteor in some way, but linking it to the geological deformations is a bit tougher. Maybe some sort of Aether "cannon" (not literally) that is controlled by the Eikons in order to prevent Meteor.

    3. Something else entirely, because you never know when it comes to plot twists! ^_^

...Honestly, I like scenario 1 the best. Dalamud crashes into Eorzea in fragments, the Empire "wins" but at a significant cost to themselves. Then we have the time skip, allowing people to re-imagine their characters utilizing the 2.0 game engine, and the time skip will also allow them to explain any changes to civilization (Gridania and the Black Shroud changing, etc.).
As for the OP alternate universe theory, it's interesting but unlikely given the devs have so much invested in the current lore of the 12, Eorzea, The Empire, and the Eikons.

Actually, I was thinking of doing that as well. If the whole game is essentially getting remade, that would include all the 1-50 content as well. So by starting at 50, you actually miss out on a lot of what was developed for 2.0. I know a lot of people wouldn't be interested in starting over, but I'll do it if it means that I get to experience a lot of new, interesting content.

I'm going to go for the obvious. I feel Eorzea's going to get destroyed (as we know it) and all along you were in another echo. ...Which would be lame, but probable.

Or! Since they seem to have echo+1, Than, Yda, Papa and Y'sh will pull you out of this reality and into theirs.

I don't think so. The storyline was level-based. With the nice, shiny new jobs we'll get to experience it since they'll start from 1, right?
