Pardon my bad pun, but I laughed my butt off after reading your post. Thanks for the laugh! XDAt this point, I'm surprised they don't release a butt slider character creator option as a mog station upgrade. This stuff has reached flagrant F2P cash grab levels except it's on top of a premium priced subscription. Then they pile a limited currency on top of that? It's beyond absurd.
Meanwhile Eureka still can't handle the number of people in it without party members vanishing constantly. Maybe devote money away from cash grab phone apps and into basic infastructure work?
With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if what you said ever come true lol.
Yes, I have a huge respect for the dev team, too. They did something nobody else could do when they turned this game around and because I know the history of the game, I've been tolerant of some of the basic QoL features that we are missing.
Except it's really hard to be understanding when the solutions are increasingly being placed behind a pay-wall.
I agree, the introduction of this new currency does not bode well. This feels like yet another cash-grab only this one has real potential to disrupt the game and the game's economy (maybe not right now, but I imagine they're going to gauge our reaction to it first).
I am just getting a bit tired of knowning that part of my sub money went into this app only to have to theoretically pay them even more money if I want the whole app..I am fine if they use sub money to create content that I wont use (like Ultimate) as long as there is enough for everyone and people are happy with that. But creating an app from our money (or from the FF14 budget) and want us to pay more for it and probably even adding those coins in there..heck they even said that more things might come for those coins if people request it..
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Things like this is part of the reason why I gave up and terminate my sub. I really miss the good folks I met in-game but I really couldn't find it within me to carry on.I am just getting a bit tired of knowning that part of my sub money went into this app only to have to theoretically pay them even more money if I want the whole app..I am fine if they use sub money to create content that I wont use (like Ultimate) as long as there is enough for everyone and people are happy with that. Make sure it's a consumable so every time you want to change it you have to buy another coupon. At this point, I'm surprised they don't release a butt slider character creator option as a mog station upgrade. This stuff has reached flagrant F2P cash grab levels except it's on top of a premium priced subscription. Then they pile a limited currency on top of that? It's beyond absurd.
I'm really not a fan of F2P gimmicks existing in a subscription MMO. It's just plain greedy - and considering that a lot of players have supported this game during the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 it's very dubious. The company nearly went under, after all. Yoshi-P has done a lot for the game, don't get me wrong, but it troubles me to see him cheerfully talking about ways to secure additional money through 'optional' purchases during every single Live Letter. The 'humbleness' of Square Enix seems to have vanished and at this point I feel like it's going to take another 1.0 for the company to get the message.
This app something to be ashamed of, could't they just released regular thing no create a mess. Great losing hope on your community ones agen.
I can't get away from awful F2P greed even in one of the few sub-based MMOs now? This is inexcusable. Come on SE I know you need to make money but methods like this are exploitative to the max.
I disagreed with the Mog Station's existence but I made my preferences known by not using it. Now I am seriously considering unsubbing since this is yet another reason that SE cares more about what it can extract from me rather than trying to make my investment worthwhile. Where is all the content that the Mog Station was supposed to fund? The improvements? The game is still ARR with extra bells and whistles, SB has been lacking in things to do with nothing to show for it, and now they're trying to sell some micro transactions on top of a sub and a cash shop with many expensive exclusive items? Did the cash shop fund this atrocity I suppose? Is this what I'm paying for- the opportunity to get nickle and dimed to death from an MMO I pay for each month?
This app isn't a game or a required feature. But its profit structure smells strongly of high-grade bullshit to me. If this is what SE wants to do with XIV, I will take my business elsewhere. I was disgruntled before this news and now I have yet another reason to leave.
EDIT: I actually just went ahead and stopped my sub now. I'll be here for 4.3 since I love the 24 man raids but they seem hell-bent on charging me more for less. SE lost a ton of my good-will with the F2P crap on top of everything else I've been unhappy with. They will have to reverse course and make my sub money worthwhile for me to sub again.

It's going to backfire, at least to some extent. I know quite a few people who chose to invest in this MMO over many others because it didn't go all out on the same amount of greed seen elsewhere in the industry. A lot of people put the last remnants of their faith in Eureka and it ended up being exactly what they feared it would be: more content revolving around FATE's.
Square should make a donation option in this game were you can donate money to them to support this game, I rather pay 10 euro and get nothing in return than pay nothing and see this game changing into some sort of F2P cash-grab.
(like you know the subscription thing basicly is!!)
Its not even out yet and i'm already not enjoying this game as much as i used too just the thoughts of it make me disgusted of what this game is changing in.
