Hmm.. You really think so? o.O
I get people being upset over this (myself included) but it certainly doesn't seem unsub-worthy when there's still quite a good bit of normal sub content coming out for 4.3/4.35.
Hmm.
Well I guess if there are people who are upset enough to unsub, you're right: more houses for us \o/

i was considering to unsub myself but its kinda hard with all the time i invested into this game but i will unsub if they keep pushing these crap on us i think their are alot of people able to just throw this game away without a problem because they don't want to bother with a game changing itself into an F2P game i already dropped many games because of random monetization scheme's that get added into games
This is just the straw that spoke the camel's back, so to speak. For me at least. I've been feeling disgruntled and worried about the game's general direction for a while and this seems to confirm that XIV is going full-on exploitation rather than trying to be worth my time and money. I stopped my sub, and I will be around for 4.3 because I like a lot of what's coming content-wise, but beyond that I will probably stay gone unless SE turns around and makes serious attempts to undo the damage I feel they're doing. There's a lot to love in this game but I can't really justify the monthly fee to myself any more if SE is funneling what I pay them to crap like this stupid mobile app, more cash shop exclusive items, and failed experiments like Eureka.
Look for a mansion in Lavender Beds (plot 28) on Gilgamesh come this summer I guess!

When the game first came out SE had promised that the game would not sponsor any pay to win type ideals. The game has slowly started to migrate these micro-transaction, and pay to win ideals into the game over time. It started with the small mog station items, and has now evolved into something so much more. I'm very upset about these changes. The Moogle coins and paid premium is what takes the cake in nearly coming close to ending my interests in this game. If it goes too much farther there will be literally nothing separating FFXIV from any other MMORPG. At that point I wonder...What's the point.
Hello all, I've been gone since Christmas and have been keeping my eye on this game and thanks to the free log in time I can post! And here's be my general feelings for this game as of now...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's how I feel right now.
I was on my way back when Eureka came, but what I saw from you all by reading the forums, I'm glad I didn't...
Then again but I saw the $12 emote thing, immediately closed tab because they had nothing new. $12 for that ($#@*( but you can't make fun content?
This is a sad state in the realm, I'll tell ya. One must wonder just where our money is going to? *People collectively looks over at FFXV: DLC FOR YEARS.*
Besides this terrible app, I need to ask where the direction this game is going?
They are squeezing every nickle and dime we have in this game, sure, we don't HAVE to get it...but the principle still stands...don't add all this extra @!(*#$ to a damn P2P game!
I'll return to enjoy my month of Rabanastre 24 man then leave for another 6 months or whatever.
Nothing much else I can say that everyone else in the topic said. It'll probably just get worse from here on.
FeelsREALLYBadMan.
Oh well, I'm just going to be like this guy and run for my life before all hell breaks lose.
I'm just sad, we honestly don't know where our money is going but it sure as hell isn't this game!

I'm disrespectful because people have a sense of entitlement that needs to stop. We pay subs, but we are not guaranteed whatever we want or everything a game has to offer with those subscriptions. Terms and conditions can change at anytime.
And yes there is crying involved considering the amount of threads that have been created, that could have just been condensed into one had they bothered to simply check the front page and see what was already created.
And no, I don't have to respect someone's opinion. Respect is EARNED. Not given freely. You learn that quickly once you become an adult and venture out into life. Something else that young people haven't been taught by their peers. And it's a shame.
The FF14 team would have relatively little say over the monetisation methods the game uses. They are developers, not marketers. There job is to create a product within budget, not sell that product. Yoshi P would be the main one with any type of weight to influence the pricing system since he is a company director now to but even then his control would be limited as he is a director, not a manager.
Coming from an accounting background, I look at this and see some things that seem ok and some that raise concern. The means of monetization is probably the greatest. Not all is bad. Increasing subscription numbers is hard, particularly on a downward trending market like an MMO, and the cost of development for MMOs is high. For games like FF14 that means that if they wish to produce more and meet consumer demands they need to find alternative revenue streams to generate finance to pay for more resources.
In this sense, the base concept of the Cash Shop doesn't bother me. From what we have heard it is effectively designed and budgeted for so that it would pay for itself. As long as it only sells products that don't negatively impact players who don't purchase from the store (so basically only cosmetic) and basic administrative services, the cash shop is actually a boon as it allows the developers to increase their available finances without having to charge a higher sub fee. As long as what is sold is acceptable, this isn't a negative for the game and is actually good for the game. Anything you see in the Cash Shop probably wouldn't be available anyway since the fund wouldn't have been allocated in the budget to develop it.
This is where we come to the current issue with the app. Charging extra for retainers has been a long time thing and questionable since we haven't really had a why explained. Inventory space is premium in FF14 and while the Glamour log and inventory expansions had helped they do and probably will remain an issue for players going forward unless these features are expanded. Still that is a dubious grey area that most have come to live with. At least they have taken an effort to add additional inventory. However the fact that a paid version of the app gives 70 extra slots and increases the ability to generate in game currency rings some alarm bells.
What I think is happening is the SE is looking to find a way to primarily pay for the App's development, which is understandable, and increase general revenue. Yoshi P still wants to expand the development and that means finding more money somewhere. The App has definitely been requested and we always want more and new content. With a game like WoW, where even at its weakest point it probably had over 5 times FF14's sub numbers, the cost of an App is easily absorbed and marketed as a feature. FF14 doesn't have that financial flexibility. However how they are choosing to reimburse the money spent on the app is problematic and leaning into territory SE has claimed it wanted to avoid with FF14.
Personally I don't know how they could fix it. Monetisation isn't really something I am good at. I think I can understand why they are doing it, technically speaking, but the how is concerning as a player. Even if it doesn't dramatically impact me as a player, it sets a trend that is definitely going in the wrong direction.
This is the case for me as well. They've shown 0 signs of wanting to improve the game and give it what it needs, but they show every sign of wanting to nickel and dime everyone all the time. They can stick my sub where the sun don't shine. I'll likely lose my house, but that's fine. I've got everything stored away as not to lose it. Whenever they show some sort of sign of wanting to make a good game...maybe, just maybe, I'll be back.
