Can we please get a subscription rate for both FFXIV and FFXI?

Of course, they would lose money from the people who currently subscribe individually to both games at once. So it would be a matter of analyzing how much of a loss this would be, compared to the potential number of players who would adhere to the new model.

Or, an account covered by this subscribtion could only cover one active character. This way, lots of FFXI players would still retain thir current subscription, if only to keep all their characters active at the same time, while new player would be ok with having only one.

Why would SE do this? Because it has the potential to bring additional profit. There are players who would be willing to play both games for a reduced fee rather both at full price.

There are players who are willing to play both games for the full price as well. When discussing the cash shop people like to hand-wave the argument of "wanting to support SE", so apply it here, you support SE by paying the full price for both subs.

Just make ff14 free to play already. I mean it pretty much already is since all the glamour goes to the cash shop anyways. Paying a sub to a F2P MMO sucks.

SE probably think that anyone who wants to play XI is already playing (and paying) so if they did this they'd lose more money from reducing those subscriptions than they'd get from new ones coming in.

I agree it's a valid point to raise but I'd suggest nobody can know the figures for how many people there are who pay for both full price subs versus the number of people who are prepared to pay for one bundle sub but not two full price subs. I'd suggest that SE do a bundle sub offer for a trial period to gauge the market. They already do free login periods for people to play the game for free every so often so I don't think it's too out of reach to imagine them trialing a sub bundle.

There is a lot more to F2P games than novelty items in the cash shop.

I am one of those. I recently played XI (couple of months ago) when I was taking a ahort break from XIV (just logging in for tomestones and weeklies) and I had a blast! Very fun game, nice community. It's slow and it takes a bit to fet used to its terrible old UI but it's a great game. Finished a couple of expansions but my subscription died past the middle point of Chains of Promathia. (I love Prishe).

I'd be down for a subscription bundle.

Aye, I did a stint on it...probably a year ago, maybe a bit more. Got to level....52 I think, started various expansions. A friend who played it as his first MMO back when it was still quite new (and it nearly scarred him for life and stopped him playing MMO's :-D ) has recently decided to give it a go again as a change of pace from FFXIV, so i'm back on going through stuff with him. Tonights goal - get him to Norg and his first Rhapsody! :-)

SOE used to do this with Everquest I think. For like 20 a month it had EQ1, EQ2 and another game or 2, (Planetside maybe?).

I would love to see this myself, and would use it as an immediate excuse to re-sub to FFXI. Something along the lines of $20/mo for a subscription to both would be reasonable. I also think this could alleviate, to some extent, frustration with FFXIV updates that are 'lacking' for one reason or another - because it'd simply be an excuse to bounce to our other MMO without actually leaving the FF universe.

true but I am sure this is the only one that rents out inventory space. With the retainer costs, that alone makes it like a sub model. 7 retainers is 14 dollars a month, so there is enough to FFXIV to make it a sub model. most likely just change the retainer cost to 3 dollars each and drop the sub cost. It feels like ffXIV wants to be F2P without actually being one.

They don't care about FFXI? I mean this just isn't true. The game still has monthly updates and still generates income.

I am in support the idea if by concpt alone, most places of the business world gives bulk prices sort of speak. There is a reason that has been done for so long by so many.
