"Remember" controller settings?

I'm playing on PC and use both keyboard/mouse and controller, depending on what I'm doing, but every time I want to use my controller, I have to go back to the system menu and re-select it.

I understand what's happening, and I get the logic of why, but is there a way to force the game to keep the controller selected, so I don't have to set it manually every time? This could probably use a patch.

Anyway, here's what's happening.
1) Set controller (fine while using)
2) Stop using controller for a bit
3) Controller turns off to save battery life
4) FFXIV realizes the controller is "not connected" (turned off) and removes it from the list of available devices.
5) Turn controller back on to use it again.
6) FFXIV adds the controller to the list of available devices again now that it is "connected" (powered on).
7) Manually need to re-select controller. FFXIV does not re-select it for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the main issue is that your controller is turning itself off, causing the game to no longer recognize it.

Does the controller or your PC have a setting that will prevent it from shutting off after a set time of inactivity? Can you plug it in using a USB cable so it will remain connected to the PC?

No, the main issue is the game changes my default controller settings. It recognizes it when it is on, and because I set it to default, I want it to be default.

No, there is no option to keep it on, not that it would be good for battery life, and no there is no option to connect with a cable.

Please, just use the settings I set, it shouldn't be difficult.

The controller won't default the way you want it to because it was disconnected. Reconnecting the controller (in your case, turning the controller back on) will allow the game to connect to it, but you have to tell it that you want to use that particular input device.
