I was curious, so I went and tested in the games I currently have installed.

    ESO: Activates on release
    GW1: Activates on press
    GW2: Activates on press
    FFXI: Activates on press

I was honestly surprised by ESO, actually. I suppose that lets them differentiate between light and heavy attacks even though that's normally done via the mouse, so it kind of makes sense there. I vaguely recall Wildstar having this, since they have the telegraph system for everything, and that would allow you to line up your telegraph. But we don't have anything like either of those here so there's no need for it in FFXIV.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The above posters are correct (thank you for research, by the way). Unfortunately, there is no in-game option for doing an action on release of the button. You may be able to do this with a programmable keyboard/mouse by selecting what action are to be done when you release the button. However, this would be outside of the game environment so I'm not sure how the game will react to this.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

thanks for your input everyone. Several months i ran across an option to switch from activate on release of a key to activate on pressing a key. I was talking to a friend at the time and we discussed it and i decided to try it. This has caused issues with drag and drop and several other things in the game and i want to switch back. Unfortunately i can't find this option any more. Since my friend and i were playing ffxiv at the time, i thought the option was part of the game. I have looked at my mouse and keyboard settings and can't find it either. I don't want to do something drastic like wipe my machine and reload everything. was hoping someone would have a solution.

Thank you for the update Meran.

There isn't an option like that in-game, so you must have adjusted it outside of the game. Do you own a programmable mouse or keyboard (or even something like a gaming keyboard)? Does it come with it's own program or drivers?
