Why not try Red Mage?

All the cross class system did was force people to level jobs they didn't want to.

It's why I'm never going to be a crafter. Not because I don't want to craft, I just got invest the time in levelling 10 different but almost identical jobs at once.

I'm totally with you there on crafting. I hate all crafting in MMO's so I never craft.

However, I actually didn't mind having to level up other classes/jobs for the skills because I tend to be an alt freak anyway. Coming from a background of 2nd and 3rd edition D&D and DDO, I just LOVE toying around with multiclass stuff and other customization crap.

Actually, it was the Red Mage job in my email that got me back trying this for it was my favorite class from the original nintendo game.

IDK, the limited customization there is now just from a general pool of abilities feels to much what WOW dissolved into after they ditched talent trees. I didn't like that either....

While it doesn't have protect, RDM does have a ton of utility. Including the ability to heal oneself far better than cross class cure ever could, chain cast rezzes, and so on. Try it out? It sounds like you'll like it.

Well, I finally got to 50 and tried Red Mage last night. For whatever reason it out nukes my native black mage class, so I'm like wth is that? But it's a really fun class! Dual-cast is fricken great and popping in and out of melee was a good choice (I think lower cooldowns for the popping in and out moves would help though).

My only criticism of RedMage is that in the original FF they got to use shields, long swords, and heavier armors like at least chainmail, but I guess a dainty rapier will suffice for now ;P

Thank god I made a female toon or else it might feel kinda gay ;p
