    Blitzball: Any ideas how you would like this to be implemented

    After just reading an interview with Mogtalk and Yoshida, I wanted to create a thread to suggest ideas to Yoshida and the team how they could implement Blitzball? It seems the concern Yoshida has, is the longevity of the content. So, use this thread to tell the community team of any ideas you have for how to make this new content great!

    Naoki Yoshida:
    There are two plans drafted, but it’s currently still pending. One idea is to recreate blitzball just like it was in FINAL FANTASY X. I’m sure there are lots of people who want this, but I can’t shake my concern that people would get tired of this after playing through it just once. That’s because for a form of playable content in an MMORPG, one playthrough takes a long time. We can reward Allagan tomestones, but if the player wants to gather tomestones, they would run something more time-efficient. Then, let’s say we implemented a designated swimwear. But once the swimwear incentive is gone, people won’t play it anymore. We know from experience that something that may be fun as a game does not necessarily work within an MMORPG. The other idea is an MMORPG-like blitzball, where you recruit NPCs from various regions to create your own team. The player would then send that team out to matches, and strengthen them through training. If you could imagine existing games that involve coaching characters, or simulation games, this idea would be akin to those. For an MMORPG, I believe this game design would be better received. But in this case, I can anticipate feedback along the lines of “this is not blitzball!” so it’s giving me quite the headache. Do you have any good ideas? : (

    Personally, I don't mind the idea of it being a management game, but it would have to be rewarding and competitive. I think SE should look at how content has been done in sports games, such as Fifa. I think they should also look at games like Rocket League and Fifa Street for inspiration if they want to put us in the water.

    Rather it be a thing you do. Not squadron type nonsense. It would be pretty disappointing if they added it in and it was just another retainer to send out in a venture.

    I would only accept Blitzball if we could play it in action, not turn based like FFX, nor management, it's not fun.

    Make it pvp, rip off Huttball from Starwars TOR. It's the one pvp mode that I've never heard many people say anything bad about.

    Yeah, sounds like it's probably going to end up being either a modified PVP experience, or a modified Squadron deal.

    PVP style will probably extend its life; Squadron style will probably be easier.

    Squadron style will probably be more inclusive, easier for all to access; PVP style will probably suffer from the same stigmas that PVP already carries.



    As a solo minigame, it was simple enough. Bringing it forward and trying to make it multiplayer is going to be complicated and messy. No matter what they do, I doubt it's going to leave very many players happy.

    I see it going the way of lords of verminion so however they implement it I doubt It'll get much traction.

    I'll play I for the swimwear. New bikini or swimsuit glam for lounging at costa del sol.
    I also enjoyed Blitzball in X though and even got Wakkas weapon from the grind so yea. If it was a replica of that, I'd be cool with that.
    Don't really want a Football management Squadron mission type thing though. That sounds drab.

    I don't think the sport manager system would work for the kind of game this is. Personally I'd like it if were a spinoff of 4v4 PvP.

    You'd have two teams of 4 players comprised of a tank. a healer and two DPS.

    Your role would affect what you position is in the match. i. e. Tanks would be defence, DPS would be forwards, healers would be... Midfields? Support? Cheerleaders?
    DPS role would affect how they'd play too. Like melee could have a higher movement speed, physical ranged would be better at shooting, casters would be better at intercepting?

    But then you gotta account for lag, ping differences, having to redo the targeting system and then it kind of gets messy.

    If they had to choose one of the two drafted plans then I'd rather they do the FFX remake, otherwise we'd just have sports-themed squadrons.

    I personally don't think that PvP would make it long lasting *stares at the current PvP modes*. They will be rushed, criticized and left to die like Chocobo Racing/LoV. It sadly (knowing this is an MMO) should be featured and be focused on singleplayer with PvP as an alternative.
