Specially in the light of recent events (the release of the male bunny outfit, that took about 2 years) I've asked myself this question again - infacte I've asked myself different versions of this question:

If removing a genderlock from gear later takes them 2 years but they eventually wanna do it as Yoshi stated once, why do they keep adding to genderlocked gear?

And while I personally dont agree with the argument that "Male characters shouldnt be allowed to wear dresses because its not something men do" (or some version of this), I can at least see a tiny bit of a reason there not to unlock something like the Thavnair Autumn dress (and obviously keep the Shirt males only aswell then). Just a tiny bit though, that I dont agree with.
However, this falls "reason" falls flat on its face when it comes to stuff like the Expeditioners Shoes for example. Genderlocked Shoes? Why?

As for the reason of giving the artist more freedom creating gear-sets for just one gender: They can still do that. They can initially design a set for females, a set for males and still model them for both genders.

Solution: Stop releasing genderlocked gear - start working on unlocking stuff instead. If they want to do that anways better not build up more workload and instead try to remove the locks that already are in place - specially the extremly arbitrary ones like on shoes, gloves, headgear.
You. I like you.

As for my "Why is this still a thing": Item bloat. There should not be 20-30 different versions of leather when often times we barely have the item space for gear. These should either be all turned into a single item, or should have their own dedicated inventories already available in the game. ie: an inventory for "leathers", "fabrics", "ores", "lumber", etc. Because the biggest thing that's been keeping me from crafting has been the fact that the sheer amount of items (that you can't throw away, mind you ) there are have made it where my mother-who has all of her gatherers at 70 and all of her crafters at 65 and above- has barely any inventory space despite having nine retainers. Even with the 999 stack increase.
