Fishing Retainers and Spearfish Gathering

I'm wondering if there is any possibility that our retainers will be able to gather anything that we can gather through spearfishing. It only makes sense for the fact that we can equip our retainers with a spear but they cannot gather some things through spearfishing, making those more valuable but a pain in the arse to really gather for specific food/item craftings. I wasn't sure if it's SE's intention to never implement it or later on down the road. Does anyone else feel like it'd be a quality life improvement for Fisher's by allowing their retainers to gather them as well?

They will eventually. If I had to guess, it will be in 5.0. There currently isn't anyway to get an extra Gig as the only one available in the game is the quest; and if they made a craftable Gig, they would need to give it stats in order to make it viable (+GP is meh right now as most maxed out fishers have plenty of GP), which means they would need to re-balance fish requirements.

It may come sooner than 5.0, but that's where I'm looking for it to happen.

spear fishing is mostly used to get fish for crafting. almost no fish you catch with the rod are used for any crafting recipes.
the market for fish is pretty small and works only because not that many people are willing to actually play fisher. so the small demand also has only a small supply. but when retainers can go spearfishing and bring all those fish you need for crafting, it will completely destroy the market - and any incentive to actually go spearfishing yourself.

i like to play fisher and i like to make some money through fishing.

of course fisher retainers should not be useless also, but i rather have a useless bot than being robbed of my gameplay experience.

that happened with the Blue Cloud Coral early in Heavensward. i could sell them for 10k gil and made good gil with them. then they let retainers gather them and the price dropped to under 1k gil in no time.
