Was this back when the game was a total mess? (only hearsay as I'm new here) If so it was probably a sort of damage control; just to let people know things will get better. Just look ath XI and their road maps. There's a lot of things didn't get put in when the road map said it would, got scrapped, or pushed back. It's bad enough when we get told about a new feature and either A) never hear about it again B) rarely hear about it C) It keeps on getting shoved back. How many people would have lost their minds even more if Eureka was on a road map? I mean the damn app has been in the works for years. Look how long it took for egi glamours to come out. Road maps are nice, but you're really going to say people aren't going to get just as mad if not more if the thing they've been looking forward to doesn't come out the month it was said to happen in? Or if the next one they show now doesn't have it listed at all?
I meant about the first year or so of ARR being released and possibly you're right, but one example is the housing demolition. Originally it was said that there wouldn't be any housing demolition/maintenance, but obviously that later changed. However people still throw that quote back at them. It doesn't seem to matter that the quote was made before housing was even released, or that we as the community were complaining about inactive houses/wanted them removed (so they did...), people still shout about it.
Good shape yes, but the problem of sticking to a tight schedule is still an issue and the lynch mob community still being here too. Look at Eureka and how much that was pushed back. They didn't really release any details on it until it was set in stone and nearly here. I'm sure that went through many changes before it was released as it is now (and even then a lot of people were unhappy with what we got).
I agree, it'd be great, but as we've seen from experience, if they say something and change their mind later (for any reason!), the community has a go at them. They're going to continue to try and minimise that as much as possible.
They probably won't. People will just get mad when they keep delaying stuff that was "supposed" to be out or things that get canned while in development and never see the light of day. (Look at Eureka, imagine if that thing was on a "roadmap" for an entire year.) If I was them I wouldn't do it either. It basically got replaced by the livestreams where the scope is + - a couple months which is much more workable. Other companies have realized that announcing things before they are ready usually isn't a good idea.
The same happened with activision-blizzard and wow expansions.
When wod (and arguably any prior exp) was announced they announced more that they could actually implement and were very open about their intentions but once they had to tell that much of their ideas had to be cut and the resulting bad feedback from the community because of that, they started beign much more closed about devs stuff and releasing the bare minimun infos to avoid riots.
I know this because I was one of those very angry and vocal about this and frankly I can't hide behind me beign critical and just sending a feedback card which imho too many ppl use.

This game is already extremely predictable, I didn't even list the extra eureka maps or deep dungeon, but while we don't know when they will be added, we know they are in the roadmap.
