I see conflicting statements here. Paying close to your sub cost just on inventory space and it is fine? okay....I craft, I only use one retainer for the materials, I have six for glamour, and one for housing and materia.
My inventory is fine, I have 40-something slots used from my own personal inventory, and I carry a lot of miscellaneous stuff like fireworks, Sigmascape pages, buff food, potions, etc.
The only points that were valid from OP were:
1) Certain items not in the currency menu (eg. Anemos Crystals, Protean Crystals, etc.)
2) Retainer UI being clunky.
Inventory on its own is fine.

I mean, if you want to penny pinch, it's obviously not gonna be fine. But that's a you problem, and I'm giving you my perspective as this is a public forum.
♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥

I mean, buying extra retainers isn't SE's fault exactly, they're supplying a service to the consumer, and you willingly bought that service. You can't willingly buy something and use it, and then turn around and cry that it's costing you money in the first place, you kind of have to and should take financial responsibility about what you do with your own money and how much you value its worth. It's not as if they're in your house holding a smoking gun to your head and forcing you to hand over your credit card here.
And I get to criticize what you said on a public forum for the same reason.
If they are going to charge that much for something like that, I better see some results be put back in the game, and it is clear that is not the case.
Calling it "penny pinching" is a bit self defeating since that is what SE does to this game anyway. If you are going to tell the player base to "stop penny pinching" then the same should apply to SE as well.
Yes it is, they over bloat you in items to try make you pay more for your sub then you should be doing.
It is not "extra service" do you forget this game is a sub base model? If this game was f2P model, sure I would be agreeing with you.

Are you paying for ADDITIONAL services with your OWN money WILLINGLY and by agreeing to the TERMS OF SERVICE that SE has provided!?
If you answered yes towards any of that, then no, it's not the company's fault that you have such a loose control over your own wallet. I've been playing XIV for five years and only have two retainers on my main account and I've run into plenty of storage/inventory problems that I dealt with WITHOUT buying additional retainers. And why didn't I buy them, if you may ask? Because I actually place value in where my money goes which I guess isn't the case for you.
I just want a faster way to navigate through all my retainers. At the moment, I have 5 retainers mostly for glamour (having all jobs to 70 and being a glamour enthusiast myself, you can see how much space I use for this) and one for currencies/materia/tokens/dyes/misc in general. Sometimes is a pain in the butt to go through all of them individually to check them out.
Honestly, a lot of inventory problems could and would be solved if XIV had the means/desire/foresight/all of those fun words to implement a separate storage system for crafting/gathering materials that GW2 had and uses where they could stack to 999 and you basically would never have to pull the item directly out of storage, it would just be used from storage during crafting. If we all had that? There would probably be less complaints as anything else can just be considered a personal user problem if you're hoarding glamour items, furniture, whatever it is that you do, etc...and you need the extra retainer space for that or something.
