New Player: Trying to decide on a class

To give a little context, I've gotten this character to 30 on the Arcanist (And get my Scholar job), and I've had quite a bit of fun with that, but casting in general feels a little too turret-y for my taste. And I gave my first honest crack at Marauder tanking, and just found it a bit too spike-y for my liking (And this is coming from someone who played DK tank in WoW)

I only have the base version of the game for now, so knowing that, what would you say is the most straightforward and accessible melee/ranged DPS job for a new player?

Archer/Bard keeps you mobile and provides raid-wide buffs that are greatly appreciated. My vote would go to that. Plus SB revamp on the class make it extremely fun.

bard (archer), ninja (rogue), dragoon (lancer) for me are good starting melee/ranged for the base jobs.

To be fair you may want to have at least one of every role. in the long run it will become more helpful specially if your going to do end game raiding.

I would recommend PLD ( easy to learn )

DPS I'm a DRg at heart however NIN is fun and a lot like MNK

For range I'm more of a BLM , however if you like support RDM is fun.

Healer Many like SCH I'm more of a AST I like the challenge of boosting / managing the buffs.

Over all just make sure your having fun.

Seems like the general consensus is Bard for ranged dps. I'll go ahead and take a look into it, seems like it's a bit more straightforward, not really having to worry about combos, while still remaining mobile.

Thanks for your input, everyone so far, but I welcome any other suggestions

Pretty much under 50 bard is still straight forward even with its tweaks. I think youll like it quite a bit. I started this game as a whm and bard. Have fun pewing all the things! ^.^

My experience with this game has largely been with the tank classes. As an addendum to what ManuelBravo said Warrior and Paladin are fairly easy to learn (warrior has a slightly stepper learning curve than paladin) but fair warning tanks have additional responsibilities in group content than dps. I have got Dragoon up to 55 and I have found it to be a fairly easy leveling experience, I also played around with Bard a bit. Bard and its cousin Machinist are a bit different compared to other dps classes since their rotation is priority based (and somewhat at the mercy of a random number generator) as opposed to having a strict sequence of buttons you press with a class like Dragoon. But Bard is still pretty fun.
