Returning player started anew - Grand Company question

    Hello,

A short time ago I've returned to FFXIV as a White Mage and I have a question about the Grand Company currency called Seals. Am I correct in thinking its a wise choice to save the Seals for ranking up in the GC instead of purchasing gear from them? The questing is flowing at a nice peace which is also supplying me with gear/weapons.

The last time I put any decent amount of time into the game was back when ARR was released. I think back then the GC had less ranks to earn? I think so anyway.

That's my question and thank you for reading.

PS: Are there any social FC's on Odin who might be able to offer a home to a White Mage? I have a fair bit of MMO knowledge and was a White Mage/Black Mage in Final Fantasy XI - Online many years ago.

If you need gear and the GC seals help you get it, take the gear. You earn seals faster at higher level so you can always catch up if needed.

Otherwise, yes. Having higher ranks lets you do expert delivery, where you can turn in unwanted dungeon drop gear for seals, which earns you tons of seals. You can buy a lot of things that have value from your GC (like ventures, crafting mats, cordials, etc), so that's a useful thing to have. 2nd Lieutenant also unlocks squadrons, which lets you get to 1st Lieutenant and can earn you extra rewards.

Also, depending on how fast you're levelling, it might be worth just getting dungeon gear/quest gear - especially if you go into the Hall of the Novice at level 15 (the Smiths in most inns will tell you about it, it's outside Aleport in La Noscea), that gear is good for a decent while. If you join an FC that puts up levelling buffs, and eat food, you'll probably stay pretty far ahead of the MSQ anyway.

Tridus covered the seals info, so there's no need to repeat it, but I will say that getting to the point where you can turn in dungeon (and other unwanted pink/green/blue) gear is a godsend when you're trying to farm seals. Especially if you decide to do a fair bit with retainers.

As for FCs, good luck! I suggest checking out Odin's server page, it looks like there's a list of FCs recruiting. I hope you find what you're looking for, and welcome back

Just remember if you don't have your company chocobo yet it costs seals. It's on the cheap side than how it was.

I would use the GC seals to level your rank until you unlock the Expert Deliveries.
Like Tridus said before, it will be much easier to farm GC seals doing those deliveries.

You unlock this when you reach the 'Sergeant Second Class' rank.

    Have fun!

Save the seals for promotions and later on Squad/Command missions and then buy Ventures for your retainers.

As a healer you will get enough gear through the story and dungeons really, at level 1 to 49 you don't need to worry about having the best for your level as you wont be tanking (hopefully) taking damage (defense on gear) so the extra stats like Mind isn't going to be very noticeable. At level 50 you will get two sets of gear, then at 60 and finally at 70. I've leveled White Mage to 70 on eight characters and had managed to get from level 15 to 50 with just Novice Hall starter gear and nobody notice because it doesn't affect your healing much at all as your only getting +1 per so many levels. Not saying you should do that what i do, but it is possible and you will get lots of healer gear from dungeons anyway.

There are two other good ways (that I can think of) for getting seals:

    1. Adventurer In Need bonus for leveling roulette. Keep a watch for when the roulette is offering the bonus to healers.

    2. Supply and Provisioning hand-ins. One item is requested for each crafting or gathering class you've unlocked - although you don't need to personally craft/gather the items. It also gives you EXP for the relevant class, so it's possible to level them without actually using them! As the classes level up, their requested items (and rewards) get higher as well. (Plus 1000 bonus seals per week from the challenge log for handing in ten requested items, and again for 10 HQ items.)

As a new player on the free trial, I leveled everything up to the Lv35 cap, and I had so many seals from crafting hand-ins that I didn't know what to do with them. Bought every piece of gear and then started stocking up on ventures.

Oh yes I spotted this was browsing through the items on the GC NPC! How much did the chocobo cost back in ARR? I can't remember.

Also thank you to everyone that replied with help!

Think it was originally 2k-5k, and it's now less than 1k? There were also only 9 GC Ranks accessible back during ARR, we now have 10... there's another 9 to go!

The chocobo now only costs 200 seals. You'll get that no problem; it’s only like two or three FATEs.
