Will 2.0 heave better physics in the new areas?

I'm wondering if this is part of 2.0

Take a look at ul'dah. Everything looks new and stale and lifeless. I'm thinking that applying physics to the enviroment is what it needs to look more life like.

Although maybe that's not it at all. I'm not sure if XI had physics in their cities, but the enviroments looked as if they were actively lived in.

That's just environmental design, not physics. XI did have a lot of attention to detail, for example most if not all of the dungeons that have structures or were said to have been ruins/destroyed during the war had obvious wear & tear, likewise how Garliage Shitadel in the present is a shithole, in the past with the exception of the basement it looks like a Citadel prior to yagudo and orcs storming through it.

After the Fei'yin meltdown and the other Crags overloading, the surrounding areas, particularly Ro`Mave has a very obvious "shit happened" design to it. XIV's story really doesn't have much in regards of something in comparison to XI, just yet, but the cities are lifeless mostly because of design limitations (limited PC/NPC display for one thing, objects count as NPCs in most engines.)

I really liked the environments in FFXI, they made you want to know what happened, (like QSC, Garlaige etc) I agree in the lore there is not much reason right now to have the ruins etc, but they can tie that sort of thing into the 7th umbral era, so for example a dungeon that is in ruins saying for example "the dalamud caused this random city to get distroyed, and it is now a haven for monsters" of course SE could come up with a better story than me

The 7th umbral era and how they are tying the map changes into it can allow them to do anything with the changes during the 8th astral era (2.0)

Also in thanalian (I think near drybone) when I was mining I saw a cave with an npc in saying that i could go no further and there was an invisible wall prolly been there since release but anyone else thing underground ruins?

I don't know man, the cities don't look torn down yet they look a lot more awesome. I mean look at sandoria, that's all pristine!

Elexia mentioned of the current engine limitation and I believe it's this that makes the city seems lifeless. Things seem to stretch far and not enough unique element in each town. A good example of that would be Gridania. Ul'dah I feel is very small all together. I am hoping they will redo the town maps in 2.0 (as they only mention 'most' will change). As far a physics engine goes I don't think MMO have enough resource for actual real physics. They just have animations to objects such as tree/grass moving, character hair, etc. I think those are done pretty well in XIV, but we definitely need a lot more than those to bring some life to the place.

I think they have to redo the town maps because they use the same seamless design that they have to eliminate in the new server structure. I would guess that this will mean the towns will be divided into multiple maps sort of like they were in XI. Hopefully each area is intended to be unique in its own right in the same way the new wilderness maps will be.

I don't want to give anything away, but if you do the current story stuff it seems pretty clear the 'coming storm' is going to affect everything on Eorzea most likely including the cities.

It was stated that all non instanced zones will be redone so that will include the 3 capitals.

    http://wdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...Content_EN.pdf

also the below was listed in the Upcoming Patch Schedule &
    Version 2.0 Details:

    1. A complete redesign of current repetitive maps
    2. The implementation of a new graphics engine
    3. A new server system designed for increased speed and performance
    4. A fully renewed user interface
    5. The expansion of in-game community content

if SE and the FFXIV team stick to the content they have outlined in the road map for 2.0 we should have a much more dynamic and living game.

Physics is stuff like cloth being affected by the wind. There already are physic effects in the game but only for character models and not affected by surroundings (only movement). Would be nice if they added such things to the environment but I doubt that will happen.
