I still remember the first thread I read from you TC. "This community should improve because the average level is too low", or something along those lines... this thread is quite a twist from that one. You went from "complaining" about others to feeling miserable yourself.
The community wasn't a problem right then just like you aren't doing anything wrong right now either.
With some effort and commitment you'll get good DPS with SMN. All it takes is confidence and practice (the first is obtained by the latter). First and foremost, you need to know your rotation well (or in case of SMN, your priorities), don't get that wrong or you'll see yourself mechanizing an inefficient rotation (and then you might have some trouble correcting bad habits).

Once you are aware of what to press and when, it all boils down to repeating it as many times as possible (against dummies, bosses, SB hunts, anything you can hit for a reasonable amount of time). You'll eventually get so used to it that you won't care how good you've become and instead you'll want to play another job .

PS: Be careful with FFlogs because it can be deceiving. Your percentiles there greatly depend on your party setup, how generous is the boss in not screwing you up with mechanics and most importantly how geared you are.

A max geared terrible player in a meta comp group with 99th percentilers will still be terrible.

(not saying that this is Kaiva, but don't marginalize good players percentiles.

Which is fine and all...just not sure right now if I can do that on my controller without a lot of extended practice and possibly some macros. I gave it a shot, and I have a hard time with triple-weaving. So maybe I just need to stop worrying about getting to an elite level and just playing, knowing my limitations.

If you can't triple weave, try double weave - and stay away from macros.

Also look at how some other controller people did their bars.

I know it's not the same job, but when I was leveling AST, I thought I had a good controller set up. Then I went into a savage raid and I realized that when timing mattered, I had some horrible bar switching. So I looked at my SCH set up (which is very comfortable) and imitated that for AST and I did like 75% better. placement matters.

Personally I recommend using just 3 cross hotbars (extras can be used for non battle things): main hotbar, hotbar for L+R, hotbar for WXHB (full), and putting Sprint on macro #99 and changing the controller config to have one of the analogs use macro #99.

Can also get ideas on how other people did their cross hotbars on this website:

Out of curiosity, since I'm still somewhat new to macros (my only macros are simple raises with a quote and my sprint hotkeyed to an analog), why the issue with macros? Are they bad to use? Or just not a good idea to use at this stage?
