If you unlocked the jobs at lvl 50 what would be the point of a job?
Having it at lvl 30 allows you to XP as a war, pld, blm, whm, whatever. Jobs are not for end-game only, they're supposed to enhance the entire game.
And 50 takes about a week or two at most I don't think it's that much of a difference. And like mentioned before unlocking the job doesn't necessarily mean it'll be fully optimized. There's more quest to get abilities/af/enhance the job post 30. I believe 30 is a good lvl. You don't want a person to getting all the way to 50 thinking that they'll like a job when it turns out they don't like how it plays out in party. 30 gives them a chance to try it out without much commitment.
Either way, I'm super excited.

Well, I really don't believe that to be true, unless we get longer fights, with adjusted exp of course because that how you people want it. Because, I'm level 50 thm, all I know is just hitting thundara and fire, I never use any other abilities because really, I never had a chance to use em. Fights are sooo fast that I just forget about em.

30 is a good number. I would say it's the point where soloing starts to get pretty slow/boring and people prefer parties. Having a specialized role at 30 is the PERFECT TIME to start having it.
Yes, it doesn't take too long, but it does take some effort and commitment... plus, the quests won't be super easy, and there will be OTHER quests as well. The 'advanced jobs' unlocked at 30 in FFXI, which may have taken more time to obtain, but in the end was a much LOWER level in comparison to now. The cap is 50. How high do you expect people to play a job to unlock something else?

But that's the level where it becomes more beneficial for a player to group up instead of solo. thus that's when they unlock the group specifications.
A lot of what's do is with the mind that 2.0 will bring an influx of players who will slow down to go off and do things like GC quests and farm equipment in Toto Rak and Ship-a-shoe.
Some players may reach 30 in "a day and a half" but many players will explore the world and taken their time.
Making the leveling process take a long time for the sake of it taking a long time is just bad design.

ITT: People not thinking about a level cap raise in the future.
Account deactivated. Holding out for Guild Wars 2.
