    Macro Targetting & Execution

hello. i would like to use a macro for an AoE marker. i found you can use <t> quickly execute the action and instantly place the AoE at your current target. however... i don't want it to execute. is it possible to just simply bring up the marker at my current target? anyone? ^_^

Not currently doable (also don't hold your breath; there probably aren't enough ground-targetted AOEs in the game that they'd spend resources on implementing something that saves you the time it takes to move your mouse a few inches).

sadly, it isn't always a few inches. there's no telling where the AoE marker will show up. half the time i don't even know where it is. it could be clear across the map. on controller this is a problem. i don't think it would be asking too much if the default behavior was to simply place the AoE marker at your current target without execution or without special command in a macro. at the very least the AoE marker should be at the last relative position you used it at, instead of being affected by camera angle.

under no circumstances should the marker ever appear out of visible range. i just thought it would be nice to always know exactly where to expect the marker to show up. i guess is not possible. and will just have to stick with things like <t> and <me>. oh wells. maybe one day they will fix this oversight.

anyhow, thank you very much for your response. take care! ^_^

Here is a general example of Summoner's AoE.

    Macro for Ground AoEs:

    /micon "Shadow Flare"
    /ac "Shadow Flare" <t>
    /ac "Shadow Flare"

    Break Down of Macro:

/micon "Shadow Flare" ---> This line is to add the icon of the action.
/ac "Shadow Flare" <t> ---> This line places Shadow Flare on the current target.
/ac "Shadow Flare" ---> If no target is selected, then this line will freely let you place down the ground AoE.

    Hope this helps!

Ah, interesting. I wasn't aware how it worked for controller users. For mouse, it just shows up wherever your mouse cursor is sitting.

If you're playing on PC, it likely is showing up wherever your mouse cursor is (whether you can see it or not), and if that's the case, you could try setting this option.
I'm not a controller user, so I don't understand what it does, but maybe you could try it and see if it works any better for you?

However, if you're on PS4 and if that option isn't there, then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the option is there, and i use it, but it isn't helpful in the sense that the position of the marker is dictated by the angle of your camera. so... if you are far away from your target and you place and execute your marker from the furthest distance, then later when you might be close to the target and have a low camera angle your marker will show up far away.

granted one can top-down their camera and it will show up right there. but if not positioned correctly you will still have that. which really isn't an issue there. but if you end up going back to far range and want to place the AoE again... you will have to move it more, or lower your camera angle and hope you got the position spot on.

in the end i have been using the macros for a while like suggested above. but for some things like Salted Earth i just use <me>.

having to position the marker isn't the issue. it is not know where the marker will show up when first bringing it up. it can be difficult to know.

In my experimentation, where the target circle appears depends on two things.

The first is where you're camera is pointed. Fire the ability, turn the camera, and fire it again, and the target circle appears in the same line of sight. You can adjust this by moving the circle by holding L2 and using the left stick, but the game remembers this, and next time you fire the ability it will use a combination of your current camera angle and you last target position adjustment.

You could try using R2 + Left Stick to set a comfortable position for the ground target marker, and to actually target the circle, move the camera each time. If you wanted some extra precision you could place a HUD element over your preferred targeting position so you know which direction to look in before the ability is fired. So long as you don't move the circle again with the R2 + Left Stick combo, it should appear in that spot every time until you're logged out, I think.
