If the JP side also isn't too happy about it, I would imagine they're going to probably go with non-locked job options.

Anyone saying it makes sense lore-wise has 0 evidence of this and as such, no point. We don't know the lore. We know that traditionally Paladins are aligned more with light where Dark Knights are aligned more with dark but outside that there's nothing established in XIV yet. They have yet to give us that lore so until that happens, they can write it however they want to support their decisions.

However all I can really do about it is voice my opinion which is heavily against locking out job options. I am most certainly not going to pay for another character, level the appropriate classes to 50 AGAIN and then unlock the other job. That's a ridiculous expectation for someone who wants to experience all the jobs. If it happens with one job you can bet it'll set a standard and it will happen with more jobs.

If there's lore that states it (you do know they're quested, right?) it makes sense.

If there's no lore and they still do it, it doesn't make sense, it's really not that hard to comprehend >.>

If well written lore is followed by class lock out im fine with that personally. If crap lore with more holes in it then 50 cent is introduced AND then lock out classes ill be pissed.

If drk is usually a powerhouse job it makes no sense imo to come from gld. I personally loved drk on XI and if i am forced to play a gld just to get to drk thats a crap idea imo. I would hope that they would develop a class for drk instead of it being a bs idea of a second job from a tank class.

I distinctly remember a job tree someone posted for a game like ff tactics that made DRK an elite hyperadvanced job, that required a minimum progress on multiple advanced jobs. Sort of like Onion Knight on FF3. Could be an interesting way to implement.

    I. . . Don't know how I feel about Arcanist. . . It sounds to me now that, Arcanist -> SMN. . .

I wouldn't be surprised if Arcanist ends up summoning familiars from the Necrologos.

Urianger Augurelt, who played a pivotal role in the intro quests for the grand companies, was an Arcanist and summoned monsters found throughout the wild to attack the player in all 3 scenarios. They were even called familiars when summoned by him.

In the guildleve descriptions for some quests, it even mentions that monsters in which that are summoned from the book of the Necrologos are referred to as the "arcane arts".

Just a long term guess here, but it also could have been taken entirely out of context through the translation. But again, I wouldn't be entirely surprised with how many clues they leave laying around Eorzea.

I have litterally a whole wall (in my garage) with documents of all the video game lore I have collected. . . I make theories all the time about possible classes and jobs for this game. . . This was one of my SMN theories ever since I saw Urainger call forth familiars. . . But, I didn't really consider it til now.
I guess if Arcanist was a pet class that felt with debuffs and DD, and then specialized into SMN. . . I wouldn't be too upset.

What we know about Arcanist based on established lore and assets:

    * Their Weaponry reeks of "steampunk" technology, the concept of making something with high tech functions, but using very low tech materials. (example: Doc Brown's refrigerator in back-to the future III)
2-handed weapon seen in basement of guild, 1-handed weapon seen on NPC in Gold Bazaar, north of Drybone.

    * The core Guild specializes in travel, navigation, and customs/security
Logo resembles that of a nautical globe:

..please help me expand on this list, lol.

I could very well see DRK coming from GLA. As stated before it could tank by dealing a ton of damage instead of preventing a ton of damage. It would be the ideal tank for certain scenarios (like EXP/fighting on the way through a dungeon to the boss) while PLD may be ideal for certain bosses.

Arcanist I see going the Beastmaster route, not summoner. BST deals with Familiars which the Arcanist used in the GC quests. SMN deals with various avatars - like Carbuncle. I could see Arcanist starting out with it's own mechanical pet like a Puppetmaster in XI. The pet could be versatile and customizable but in a party when you only need your pet for one role you could turn into BST and summon a monster from the necrologos that focuses on what you want. Maybe they'll go the FFVI route and make you capture your pets beforehand - binding them to a necrologos - and then summon them at will.

Edit: LOL at the 3 lines starting with Arcanist... woops my English professors would shoot me!
