This is my concept of how unlocking the ability to get both jobs might be:
SCENARIO 1:
SCENARIO 2:Paladin pilgrimage completed, Job gained
"You have earned the honour of becoming a Paladin. You will be renowned in the art of communing with the spirits, even while in the heat of melee."
Applying to become Dark Knight at MRD guild
"I am afraid that although you have the spirits' blessings, you do not have the strength of will to delve into the dark recesses of knighthood, nor do I know whether you ever will."
Upon completing a special challenge of 'blood & benevolence'
"You have the trust of the spirits, and yet you wish more from them. You have proven that there can be a balance of light and darkness in this world." <unlocked the ability to apply for DRK>
Dark Knight challenge complete, Job gained
"You have strength of will and the vision to join the ranks of our elite, the Dark knights. You have challenged and angered the with the spirits of twelveswood, and returned intact, with their rage burning within you."
Applying to become Paladin at GLA guild
"You may have the rage of the spiritfolk, but you cannot simply garner their trust once again on a whim, nor do I know whether you ever will."
Upon completing a special challenge of 'blood & benevolence'
"You have the anger of the spirits, and yet you wish more from them. You have proven that there can be a balance of darkness and light in this world." <unlocked the ability to apply for PLD>
I guess JP side also has problem with that once you go DRK you can't go back to PLD statement YoshiP made on that interview they talking about it now on cheer YoshiP thread w
Also posted one more info I just found from the JP side from that same interview which was a bit of a surprise info for me![]()
A dual-gun option for Musketeers would of course be nice..
But by the same token, I hope it's just as viable to use one gun - be it a single handgun or a rifle of some sort (there are rifles kicking about Limsa Lominsa after all). Everyone having to use twin pistols would.. rather take away from the effect, I think. Besides, when I make Arin I'd much prefer he be wielding a single musket or pistol, or a rifle.
Ragnarök Online's Gunslinger job would be a good place to look - particularly the way it had very different playstyles depending on whether you had rifles or handguns equipped (speed versus high critical rate, range).
That said, personally I kinda like the idea of Dark Knights not being able to go back to Paladin. It.. well, I just like MMO's that have some permanence behind your choices. Maybe if it let you go back to Paladin through a difficult and challenging process, but.. still. Zero-consequence choices never really feel all the fun to me, let alone meaningful.

If I recall, correctly, Yoshi-P did hint at the idea of a "job stone" one would equip to change from class to job (like you would change a weapon to change class to class). In this case, then, you don't have to choose one or the other.
I brought this up in a few threads in the past about weapons and classes and such...
From the live letter...
Note the scout-type class (e.g. thief) part.Regarding dual-wielding, we're discussing whether we want to implement a class that branches out from the gladiator, or implementing a stealthy scout-type class (e.g. thief) that can perform sneak attacks. If we decide to go with the latter, we may set the job as ninja. The only problem is that gladiators are currently able to equip daggers, but not many rely on them. What we might end up doing is making the dagger available only for the scout-type class and make it able to dual-wield daggers.
It was also in an interview that Yoshi said they might give GLA greatswords so they have a DPS option. That could lead to a GLA > DRK path.
On the part of which secondary class is needed to unlock the jobs... in another interview Yoshi used PLD as an example in which you needed GLA 30 and MRD 15 to start the PLD quest line... but it may be different since those interviews went out and such so who really knows.
The cat is bemused =-.-=
I believe it was also said that the requirement to equip the Job Stone and be that Job was you must be the class that goes with it... so to be a PLD you must have a sword equipped and be a GLA to put on the job stone of PLD.

Actually, they said quite specifically that PLD require 30 GLA and 15 MRD.Nah it's not any other job, there is specific one but we're not told yet.

No...that's bad...terrible even.maybe it's good where once you become dark knight you can't go back to Paladin.
