Game Audio Cuts Out Randomly

As title says, game audio cuts out randomly. I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason to it, but it is really annoying in group content. I have to either suffer through the rest of the run with no audio, or have the group wait for me to restart the game.

It's just the game, all other audio on my PC works fine.

I searched around a bit, and looks like others have been facing this problem for quite a while too (a year or more), but I didn't find a report on the forums, so here it is.

Did you switch audio devices?

This game doesn't support device switching well (or at all really). It sticks to whatever it launched in. The only thing it really "supports" is going from speakers to old-fashioned mm headset and back (assuming the same speaker devices are used)

For example, I have a headset that I can use in various modes (bluetooth 2-way, bluetooth 1-way, and as a regular headset).

If I start as bluetooth 2-way, and I change my device settings, I have to restart the game to get it to realize the change - even though almost every other application I use is able to do the change properly.
If I start as bluetooth 1-way, and I change, same thing...gotta restart the game
If I start as headset and switch to either bluetooth, same thing...gotta restart the game

The only way to get the sound back without restarting the game is to hook back up the original audio device it launched in.

And my absolute favorite:
If I start as either bluetooth setting (doesn't matter), and I disconnect my device entirely, it crashes the game Once again, no other application has this issue, just ff14.

It's happened a few times to me also. Usually during a Dungeon run. I've posted here before about it in some other thread a couple months or so back. It doesn't happen often, maybe only 2~3 times over 6 months? In my experience.

I have not changed my audio device, I learned quickly that FFXIV doesn't follow the system default, or recognize switching. It's absurd that applications still don't work with the OS properly these days, but it is what it is.

I've read people having this happen once every couple months or so, but I've had it twice in the last week, and a few times before that.

Nothing in particular changes to cause this. I'm just running through a dungeon and suddenly -NO GAME AUDIO-

My setup... I just have audio running through my monitor via HDMI cable, it's a SAMSUNG SmartTV. The video is fine, and other audio continues fine.

I haven't paid for my second month yet since resubscribing, so I guess it's been happening less than a month.

Do you have any external speakers that your can plug in? Does this result in the same issue?

I would suggest disabling all other programs when you play the game. Also try doing a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no program that may be interfering with your audio is running in the background.

This actually started happening to me as well starting around a week or two ago. I've changed nothing about my setup. Sometimes the games sound just dies or the game starts up with no sound at all.

It's hard to pinpoint this because it seems to happen randomly. I reformatted my PC yesterday in hopes it will help clean up some weird issues like this. I will keep an eye on it.
