I waited for a bit to post this to see if it would resolve itself, but alas, it has not. A few of my friends on the east coast and myself have been experiencing huge lag spikes for the last couple of weeks. Is this happening to anyone else?

Hello WilhelmWhite, Thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums
Can you elaborate on the kind of issue you are having?
Please provide:
- Platform (PC, PS4, Mac)
- the nature of the latency
- Type of connection (wired or wireless)
- Other programs running while the game is playing (if any)
- Everything you have tried to resolve the issue
Hope to be of assistance.
Thank you for responding o/
-PC
-Will randomly stop receiving data. Sending seems to be normal, but receiving is spotty and inconsistent.
-Wired
-Discord and sometimes Spotify. But I've never had any issues running Discord and Spotify simultaneously with FFXIV until recently.
-Running without Spotify, Running without Discord, Restarting router. Nothing seems to change.
ISP Connection stats:
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.
I've also been having lag spikes the last couple of weeks. I especially get 90k'd in Eureka, in normal dungeons it's simply lag spikes that really mess with my skills.
-PC
-Delay lag (such as people will stop moving then move again and skills won't activate when used. These issues are even worse in Eureka.)
-Wired
-Discord, steam and google chrome
-Restarted router and computer. Tried without apps running in the background, issue still exists.

Yeah I'm on the East Coast and getting disconnections at random intervals. Error 9002 of course. Play on a pc as well.

Cache was cleared but the issue remains.
Certain times in the day the game freezes and I get the boot over and over every few minutes. (9002 error). I can go for for long periods with no problem. Certain times of the day it seems to happen. I checked client side and all seems fine there. This has all been happening since the last hotfixes and patch.
Hello Thank you for your response.
The issue you are describing is most associated with interference with the game data. Most of the time, it results from certain security/privacy changes on Internet Explorer. Other times it occurs when an application that is running in the background is causing interference, such as Anti-virus software, firewalls, media players, web browsers, etc.
Please make sure all background applications (including anti-virus programs such as Norton, Kaspersky, Windows Defender, etc.) have been disabled and/or closed to minimize game interference.
Ensure that the latest version of Internet Explorer is installed on your PC (even if you don't use Internet Explorer), please do not use Edge as that is a different internet platform. Once Internet Explorer is up-to-date, please open the IE browser, open the "Tools", go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
Under the "Privacy" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or to "Allow All Cookies"
Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED.
[SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7"
Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
Please RESTART your PC now.
Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"
If the suggestions provided above do not resolve the issue, then there is a communication error.
Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that the following Port Ranges have been opened/forwarded/triggered:
▼TCP
54992 through 54994,
55006 through 55007,
55021 through 55040
Hope to be of assistance.
Wow, so I got this garbage response to my ticket too.
To keep it short(ish), the game won't even launch after applying these changes (and the info is quite out of date).
For the sake of testing, I even disabled antivirus/firewall, it didn't help (not that I'd run that way on a regular basis anyway).
Ports are forwarded, everything is set up right.
Nothing else has this problem. World of Warcraft has latency of ~250ms on a server on the other coast, <50ms on a local (same coast) server.
I've also switched my ISP twice since I started playing. I'm *really* confident it is not their problem. How about you (Square Enix) stop shoveling the blame for your problems to others?
I've played WoW with a VPN running through a different country with better latency than this, it's really absurd (over 2seconds - 2000ms in most group activities)

Hello NikolasCalypso.
We use this response often because it it encompasses many of the reasons that players experience lag or disconnections, as well as solutions to those common problems. It is impossible to know where the stem of the issue is so we must send every possible solution that is within the player's control. If these solutions do not solve the issue, such as in your situation it seems, then we suggest contacting your ISP just to make sure that they are not experiencing problems.
Considering that relatively few people are experiencing this problem and most players are able to play the game without issue, I can't say with any certainty that the servers are the issue here. Since this is the only thing we have direct control over, we are left with our standard troubleshooting suggestions listed above (Although I should add that resetting your router and using a wired Ethernet cable when playing were not included in that post, those are things to try if you haven't already).
I do apologize that we cannot do more to alleviate this issue.
Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
I have changed my ISP, and all my networking equipment, and done all the troubleshooting you mentioned. (I am directly wired to the modem right now.)
There is plenty more that you could do, technically speaking. If you won't do more to alleviate this, what will you do? At the end of the month, I'm a paying customer that is getting poor service, and as a result will not be able to participate in end game team activities.

With some assistance from a friend, and some external tools, it seems this is not a networking issue as I originally suspected.
So, I dug some more, and it turns out this is a known problem since 2013!

FFXIV is a great game, it's such a shame it's being handled so poorly.
I guess we need to git gud at bad software.
