Keyboard lagging when trying to chat (and nowhere else)

Hopefully, this is the right place to ask... if not I apologize.

Ever since this morning, my keyboard would randomly start to lag when typing in the game's chat, it started gradually and it has now reached the point where I need to input a character 4 or 5 times before it reads it or I even need to click out of the chat for a few seconds before I can finish the sentence.
It happens only there, the keybinds on hotbars, movement and general shortcuts all respond well and I had no issues playing, as long as I didn't try to say anything in the chat. Same way, I tried out every other software and place that allows text input that I could think of but didn't have this issue (and this post is sort of a testament to that). I've been experiencing a few connection issues lately (problems with our provider) but as I could generally move around and do things even in raids while I couldn't type properly even in desert places like Azys Lla, I don't think they're related.
Logging out seems to solve it for a few minutes, but then it starts again.

I tried to google around to see if I could find anything of use, but most of what I found involved either people playing on PS4 or using an external keyboard (it mostly seems to be a Logitech hardware thing) and I'm playing from a laptop (been using it for the last year and had no issues aside the occasional black screen on log-in) and using its own built-in keyboard, so I'm a bit at a loss on what to do.

How long has this been going on? Have you had any updates or changes that seem to coincide with this issue? Can you please tell us exactly what steps you have taken to try and resolve this.
