There's no reason at all why we couldn't have both. Because racial status may not matter much to us in terms of character creation, but within the world itself we already know that although the playable races work well together they still have their own unique cultures and ideas. And I personally would love to explore more of what those cultures are like, and how so many versions can work together as one.

I'm not opposed to the idea of racial sidequests (I actually think it would be a very nice bit of world-building), but given most races tend to be a diaspora, it would be hard to really implement.

If you really wanted to dive into the cultural intricacies of the individual races (and further still clans), you'd need a society composed mostly if not entirely of them. Aside from the M and U Seeker Miqo'te tribes, the Xaela tribes, and Sui-no-Sato, every in-game society tends to be varying degrees of mixed race owing to Eorzea (and Othard, apparently) being a cultural melting pot. Individual racial cultures tend to be diluted or subsumed by the city-state's in which they live, leading to a less "Roegadyn" and more "Limsan" culture, for instance.

    • Hyur (Midlander): Seem to be based out of Ilsabard, since it was Hyuran bandit clans that drove the Garleans to the northern reaches of Ilsabard.
    • Hyur (Highlander): Seem to be based out of Gyr Abania / Ala Mhigo, and despite a bit of a Miqo'te and Midlander presence, the culture retains a strong "Highlander" cultural feel.
    • Elezen (Wildwood): split between Gridania and Ishgard. Despite appearances Gridiania is a primarily Hyuran society (the head of state is even an enhanced Hyur). Ishgard is primarily Elezen, though they act little to nothing like their Gridanian cousins.
    • Elezen (Duskwight): very few Duskwight are seen in-story. Gelmorra is an abandoned ruin.
    • Lalafell (Plainsfolk): said to come from islands in the south seas, no large concentration of Plainsfolk has been observed in-game.
    • Lalafell (Dunesfolk): fairly prevalent in Ul'dah, though I don't think it's fair to characterize all Dunesfolk based on Ul'dah's plutocratic society for various reasons.
    • Miqo'te (Seekers of the Sun): small enclaves of purely miqo'te society (the U and M tribes) demonstrate these fairly well.
    • Miqo'te (Keepers of the Moon): no Keeper societies have been observed, though they are known to be matriarchal.
    • Roegadyn (Sea Wolf): large presence in Limsa Lominsa, but the city-state itself is pretty diverse, and is not their homeland.
    • Roegadyn (Hellsguard): homeland (Abalathia) mostly unobserved, and little is seen of them outside of mercenaries. The Warrior Job is rooted in Hellsguard culture and tradition, however.
    • Au Ra (Raen): Sui-no-Sato provides an example of Raen culture, which seems to follow Edo-era Japan's isolationism. They are present in both Hingan and Doman society, though to what extent those societies could be called "Raen" is highly debatable (both seem to be ruled by Hyur).
    • Au Ra (Xaela): very well observed and demonstrated on the Azim Steppe.

... to really explore the racial cultures of the peoples of Hydaelyn, we need to visit the homelands of those cultures, and other than the Xaela Au Ra (and to a much lesser extent Hyur Highlanders, Wildwood Elezen, Dunesfolk Lalafell, Seekers of the Sun Miqo'te, and Raen Au Ra) that just hasn't happened.

    EDIT
Compound this with the fact that in order to avoid cries of favoritism and unfairness every race/clan questline would need to be available before any was released, and you've got a pretty tall order.

While racial sidequests is a cool idea, I am opposed to anything that is exclusive to a specific race.
I want to be able to do all the quests in the game with a single character.

There's also the concern that it doesn't make much in-character sense for a character to do a quest about finding out about their racial history/customs/etc. At least, not without making a lot of assumptions about character backstory which SE has avoided doing. Doing several of the Azim Stepe quests if you're a character from the race/tribe giving the quest can get awkward sometimes as the game assumes you're not familiar with that culture. It would make more sense for a character to do "race quests" for all the races other then the one they are (since they probably would know that stuff anyway).

Actually, I feel like we get a lot of world-building quests in the side quests (and some of the dungeon opening quests). You just can't skip past the dialogue while doing them. Churning Mists was this in spades. A lot of the ARR quests have the quest NPCs giving specific reasons why they're having you do things for them that fill in what's going on. The game rarely points out to you that part of the purpose of a quest is to give more information about "mundane" world-building.

I'd honestly just like if they brought back the Postmoogle quests, so those offered some insight into both general culture and specific characters.

It would be nice to see more lore behind some of the subraces. It would also just be nice for npcs in the story to actually acknowledge your race for once. Doing the whole of the Azim Steppe as a Xaela felt super awkward, since every npc just treated you like you may as well have been a lalafell, totally foreign to those lands.

I know they are not against changing npc dialogue for little details. While doing the HW quests on my dragoon, I got a different line of dialogue from Estinien at one point, with him acknowledging that my character was a dragoon, while my finance just got the same text on a ninja that I had on my WHM. It would be nice to see more of this. Especially since they have put some things to the lore of the races that makes it feel super strange that certain things aren't coming up. Like casually playing a Duskwight around so many Wildwoods, and never once getting a sideways glance.

They have put certain concpets into the lore, they have stated that certain subraces do not get along, but it never comes into play with the player character. I get those sorts of things are hard to put in, but it would be nice to see that extra bit of detail. To see the choices you make in character creation actually effect the way the game world reacts to your character.

I would love this idea. Maybe not restrict to ones one race because fantasia. but maybe have race specific quest-lines like beast tribe quests. And on a side note I would like the players race to be recognized much more often like in the kojin quest-line where if your a Miqo'te the kami says "you there with the fuzzy tail!"

I really like that! Say you help a Viera out you eventually maybe gain a title like "The honorary viera" like in FF12 and if you're already Viera idk it will just say "The Viera" or "Of the green word."

I also want to see that thing Yoshi P said he would add where Au'ra kiss by touching their horns together. That would be so touching to watch! Maybe unlock some little outfits minions or hell maybe even a mount if you do all of them. But wait. . .isn't this just. . .beast quests? Maybe they can be just like them idk.

Man! I really want this now! We all pick our race because we like how they look or their lore description. Wouldn't it be great to learn more about Eorzea's people! Let's hope Yoshi really does this for us someday. I swear I thought he answered a question like this during fanfest but I'm not sure.
