    Let's talk level 50 WHM

Say, you run Urth's Faunt synced once for the fun of it. You are a good WHM. Your teammates don't die, you cast regen when this benefits your mana and you don't cure 2 all that much. And you use a bunch of your uptime to dps the boss.

Would you look at that, your mana is running out extremely quickly and by the time your Lucid Dreaming is half on cooldown you are out of mana. How did this happen?

That's because the modern WHM relies a lot on assize do be able to do continuous mana regen and the level 50 WHM has almost the same rotation. This is not limited to urth's faunt either, you will be likely to run into this problem for any extreme primal level 50 you would try to do synced. In dungeons fights won't take long enough for you to notice and you regenerate your mana in between pulls so the issue does not lie there.

And before you say, isn't it the job of the ranged/casters to use mp role actions here? It certainly helps but I even have had casters manashifting me to no avail. And if I need a ranged dps on my team to be able to play my class without running out of mana something is wrong. The normal dps rotation simply wrecks your mana too much to keep doing even when healing conservatively.

Proposal: Reduce the mana cost on stone II to make up for the lack of mana utility on this level.

Have any of you ran into a similar problem on one of the other healer classes? Discuss

Not unless I'm going ballistic with Holy, no. Given lack of Thin Air (and possibly Assize at the <56 range), dungeons (as a DPS-WHM) are where I'll typically notice MP consumption the most, given any use of Holy, Raise or frequent Healing will practically force Lucid if things aren't going at a respectable pace (which, at times, they won't due to said bracket being sprout/levelling territory where everyone isn't some over-geared roulette spammer looking for their daily Tome income).

Otherwise, unless chocobo's are hitting the fan and I'm forced to raise like a lunatic, I'll always have enough for the job in larger content - including continuous DPS during downtime.

It's essentially a different play style. I've gone through some of the 50 primals and coils min ilvl recently and you just have to go back to the older whm play style. Lucid on cooldown, mainly cure I and regen. Cure II in a pinch or if you get your proc, medica only when it really makes sense, and know when to slow down on the dps (if at all).

Exactly. The only reason we have so little concern higher up is the fact that Thin Air, Assize and Lucid give ridiculous freedom. On the other hand, you're not going to get away with Cure II spam in, say, Wanderer's Palace (ie. any level 55 or lower dungeon) where you don't have those tools (especially if you have no guarantee of enough time to generate MP between pulls). This is exactly why I was advocating in defence of Cure I in a thread a month ago (a spell I still use, even in max-content). Cure II may be the go-to that puts Cure I on the bench, but it doesn't do well to fall into that trap entirely. Be it lower level content, or a future patch change down the road, we could find ourselves with a shift in play-style quite easily.

In bridging the gap, I simply become more mindful of Holy in lower level content and rely on Cure (no, not even regen). If you need heals comparable to Cure II without the MP drain, you have Largesse.

I hate to be blunt, but that's completely on you. WHMs abilities didn't get more costly at 50 than they were before, and they actually get 3 more tics out of Lucid Dreaming than they used to get out of Shroud of Saints.

WHM certainly didn't have a surplus of mana like they do now, but they also definitely weren't scraping the bottom of the barrel in one minute.

A modern WHM relies on those things, a LV50 WHM running Urth's Font synced does not. That fight was designed well before HW and SB abilities were available, and that fight was cleared long before HW and SB abilities were available. The fight is even easier now with the role skills you are allowed to take, and being over geared.

If you are running out of mana quickly in that fight, it's because damage and KOs are high, or you are not managing your MP properly. I run that fight at least once a week on my WHM and I never have any MP issues unless the afore mentioned are a factor. As such, here a few things I notice in PUGs that make this fight more difficult than it has to be.

The two biggest causes of wipes in this fight are players getting inflicted with terror which severely reduces overall DPS (this is totally avoidable), and not taking care of the bleed mechanic. The latter forces you to heal more than necessary, and will sap your MP dry keeping everyone alive if not taken care of.

You also have another healer there that should be helping out.
