    Pally Question

    I've been wondering about something.

I understand that the protocol for bosses is that you do a few hits in Shield Oath, then switch to Sword Oath for most of the fight.

However, I have seen times where in order to keep enmity, I have to resort to frequent Rage of Halone combos, which are less than great DPS.

So I have wondered, which is better:

    1. Goring Blade, Halone, Halone, Halone, Goring Blade in Sword Oath or
    2. Goring Blade, Royal Authority, RA, RA, Goring Blade in Shield Oath

Or am I going about keeping Enmity the wrong way?

    Thanks,
    Mantu

ask the party to manage their enmity, if they don't do that, sit in shield oath and don't bother. With a party like that you risk to die in Sword oath even with sentinel up.

If you're having trouble with the enmity, just go ahead and do a couple more Rage of Halone combos before swapping stances just to make sure.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't always know I'm going to have a problem with Enmity until after I'm already in Sword Oath, and I see that the DPS is overtaking me. It's usually when the boss is at about 30% health or so. What I end up doing in those fights is either staying in Sword and going Goring/Halone/Halone/Halone/Goring, or switching back to Shield for the remainder of the fight.

Normally when I pull I pull with Holy Spirit, then shield lob, circle of scorn, rage of halone combo the swap to sword oath. That should give you a good enmity lead, and using circle of scorn on cooldown should keep you in the lead. The only way it wouldn't is if you are either way outgeared by your DPS and they aren't using diversion, your healer is over healing, or you are undergeared. In any of those cases if you just add an extra rage of halone combo at the start should put you in a big enough lead.

Next to the icons in the party list you can notice some white lines building. Those are the enmity meters for each one of your party members. I use that as a guide when I tank and swap between sword and shield as a PLD. If you rotate on targets it changes. As a tank however if you feel like your losing control you can always mark a target for assistance until you re gain control. Just keep in mind when switching over to shield oath it is recommended that you are over geared for that location. If not you may be making the job harder for your healer.

In all reality, it's probably your 310 weapon. A lot of people are rocking 355/360/370 weapons by now so trying to keep up with only a 310 weapon is putting you pretty far behind at the start. I just got my 370 weapon last night, but even with the 355 I'd occasionally start losing aggro to some dps when I avoided threat combo.
