I got 2 pieces so far but their stats are lower. the pentameld really only allows for better side stats like crit and determination.

Depends on perspective, some are and side stats really even it out or may surpass based on what you meld. Besides they are not that hard to get and Eureka is Lvl i300 so pretty easy for anyone to get.
They are if your a casual player. Though really it’s not worth the grind if you do savage/ex content. The extra materia slots look nice, but tome 360 gear is better. At this point most are doing relics just for glamour.

Depends on the job, for example some 360 stuff has spell speed on it, not ideal for for SMN and RDM. So if the corresponding parts of those slots have no spell speed for the diadem 350 gears, then those select slots will likely be better.
So you would get those slots using the diadem 350 gear, while using better 360 gear for other slots (i/e pants/ right side) You also consider the 350 crafted gear for the same reason. (Get 360s that match your ideal subs better while 350 gear covers the not so hot ones, since 360 is limited to begin with)

the final final step will end up bis usually tho so they don't want to get left behind either.

I would also say depends, for instance i play more as either Red Mage or blm so have various ilv 360 tome gear and 350 Sigma gear so only a few pieces are better because of meld slots.
My Nin for example i still had Augmented gear and am raiding with it so the Eureka gear was better in this case. (Until get Savage drops)
Sub stats on some of the tome gear is just awful.
I would just say yes. Reason:Pentamelding

Secondary stats max very little relative to main stats. I believe only Bard and Machinist even consider the body because the Tome equivalent is absolute trash. That said, the crafted body may pull ahead for Bard if it's full petamelded due to the slightly higher crit.

Considering melding is the only way for tanks to get Direct Hit, the three additionnal slots per piece can be intereting. The only thing that prevent me from accumulating lots of materia right away is the potential idea that tank could be denied any effect from Direct Hit later.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's a completely pointless change—one I would hope the devs aren't silly enough to bother with. Removing Direct Hit from tanks just means they're back to melding Crit > Det. Nothing will make them take Tenacity until its a better stat.Considering melding is the only way for tanks to get Direct Hit, the three additionnal slots per piece can be intereting.
