    Is Square-Enix gonna ban me?

There is a lot I want to say but I can't since this forum severely limits how much letters I can post. This will be somewhat of a summary...

I play in Mateus. Instead of using the Market Board to make money, I advertise my products through shout. This bore varying reactions among players. Not everyone appreciated it.

I usually do it at Ul'Dah, but just recently, I tried my luck at Limsa Lominsa. To make a long story short, a certain player got upset with me and blatantly told me he was going to report me. I was unrelenting. And I think because I was unrelenting, he went ahead and followed through with his promise of reporting me.

And now I am genuinely worried. Am I gonna get banned?

Please feel free to ask me questions. There is a long story behind all of this and I can elaborate with great detail. I'm just genuinely worried and frustrated because I love and enjoy this game.

    Thank you.

If all you did was simply use shout chat to advertise selling your things then no it is not reportable unless you spammed it to an extreme degree or used insults, rude language, or harassed anyone.

This one person who got upset...all they had to do was add your character name to their blacklist and they would no longer see your shouts. So except if you were spamming the chat very badly and worth reporting.... it is kinda pointless to report you for just advertise shouts when all they had to do was blacklist then they would never see anything you type ever again.

You really should be using the market board to sell your items though....I wouldn't bother to keep trying to sell them this way. You'll irritate people likely...and you probably got blacklisted by a lot of players already.

You didn't do anything wrong at all unless you spammed it really bad over and over.

Yep, the marketboard is your best bet to sell items, however if you must insist on getting around the market board, there is another option (this is of course assuming you are a "Product on order" kinda person, rather than a "Get stuff then sell it" kinda person).

So let's say you can be commissioned to make the Replica High Allagan gear (you make what people want). What you can do is create a PF (keep it to your world only please, it's useless doing it across the entire datacentre as can't trade cross-realm) advertising your services. People do this and it doesn't bother others that much if you do it right (keep it to your world only, under the Duty: None (listed in Other on PF). People ask for something, agree price, craft it for them, sell it, done. Otherwise, just stick to the marketboard.

That being said, unless you were rude or spammy in advertising your sales in /shout, at worst you'll get asked by the GM to "Stop doing it." - now if you were rude, racist, etc, then you're probably gonna get a ban, but if you were just a little too keen on selling, then yeah, you should be fine.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Most cases of reports like this being made, they will be told to blacklist you. If you never got poked by a GM, that's more than likely what happened with that guy who claimed to report you (if he even did).

As long as you aren't excessively disruptive, I don't see why there would be a problem necessarily, but as was pointed out, this sort of thing is what the market boards are for. Advertising this way is going to ruffle some feathers and cause you to end up on some blacklists, and if you aren't also selling on the market boards, you've basically ensured that the people that blacklist you won't ever be among your buyers.

If shout chat can be used to advertise free companies, then it can be used to advertise in game products or services. Just don't flood the chat. The upset person reporting you was someone who is too lazy to solve their own problems with the tools they have been given (blacklist).

Type your whole post. Cut it down to a lower number of letters. Post it. Edit your post. Paste back in what you cut out. Save edit. You just posted something longer then 1000 characters. We all do it. The limit is dumb.

It's all up to the GM's discretion but you'd only receive a warning at worst.

    This.

You can be warned for some pretty outstandingly petty reasons (Like with the "standing on a vacant plot's lawn" incident), but getting banned is unlikely unless you do something really bad.
