Mentor roulette is my favorite because whenever I'm dealing with an social awkward situation in-game I can just q that on healer and be all "on no gotta run duty pinged!". I hope it's here forever.
I do think they should remove the roulette from the Mentor system. Keep the awards and all in tract, just separate them. Then maybe people will realize people bail on this about as often as they do any other roulette if there isn't a crown to tag those players out.
Also @Op, all of those things are reportable offenses and instead of blaming an entire demographic maybe start reporting the rotten apples. Who knows, it might just make a dent.

So, I'm eligible to be a mentor, but aren't currently (I often end up feeling I'm not good enough to be a mentor, due to things like communication and issues with frustration management). That being said, I am willing to help out others and give up my time to help them. Now if there was a "Contact a Mentor" type service available to allow you to submit a ticket to a mentor (and make it very visible SE), I could get behind that. I'd love the chance for new players or returners to be able to reach out to me. I can then help them out, and potentially make sure they've got a group to be able to ask for help in the future (so that they don't have to worry about reaching out to a random player as much).
So yeah, I can definitely back the ticketing idea. Perhaps it can be sent to a mentor at random and they can choose to accept or decline it (maybe with a penalty for declining it). This is so those that have to logoff for example aren't lumbered with a ticket they can't deal with at the time. If declined, it passes on to a different mentor at random. I know I would heavily avail myself to assist newbies with such a system. As long as there was a way to do it without that garish crown being visible (except to the newbie I'm helping). I like to be the helper that you don't see at the forefront. Less making a big deal about me, more letting me get on with helping people!
White Mage ~ Sage ~ AstrologianBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
Mentors are there to help answer questions, give tips, and on occasion take over leadership role if run is falling apart. ( Give or take their are some slackers and trolls ), Our job as mentors is not to carry or baby sit lower level players. We have better things to do, that is what the beginners hall is for. If we leave is normally do to two reasons; First the run is not salvageable and second people don't listen and are constantly ignoring mechanics.
Please don't throw us good mentors under the bus cause of a few bad experience with pretend-mentors.
/The good mentors.

As another Tradecraft Mentor, I think you've made a lot of really unfair generalisations about us. Levelling crafters takes plenty of effort unless you buy your leve turn ins, and even then you have to make all the scrip turn-ins yourself. So the idea we all got there with no effort is certainly untrue.I attained mentor status back in 3.X from my Gatherers and Crafters being at 60, I didn't hit 1,000 dungeons until the third week of Stormblood. Many of the impatient mentors you see are often those who gained it simply by crafting and gathering, and often times... just want the achievement without putting in effort. Unfortunately this leads to player who shouldn't be mentors, being eligible, as DoH/L requirements make attaining the status far easier than meeting the DoW/DoM requirements as leveling a crafter/gatherer takes less time by comparison. The whole system needs to be revamped from the ground up.
Also, you do realise that the requirements for Mentor Roulette are the same for everyone, if you haven't done all the required instances you cannot take part; there is no way for people to sneak their way in.
Having said that, I do think it's crazy that a Trade Mentor can put on the PVE mentor flag even if they don't meet the requirements and that PVE mentors can flag themselves as experts in PVP or DOH/L if they wish. I feel the crown should be specific and you should only be able to wear the ones you've earned.
I also agree with posters who've suggested changing the crown to something less prestigious like a watering can.
Personally, I'd like to see the system tightened up rather than removed. A lot of people are just in it for the mount, and that's something we'll have to live with. I do wish there was some way of removing mentors who troll groups or otherwise break the ToS, though.
When you sign up as a mentor you agree to help others and to be courteous, but there doesn't seem to be any mechanism for removing those mentors who not only don't want to help other people but actively go out of their way to spoil their experience.

we did aetherochemical research facility yesterday. i was ilvl 260 bard, my hubby was lv70 whm. we had a paladin who was really really bad. i had to use mp & tp regens always to not get aggro. Even on bosses. Apart from that, we had a mentor who is another bard! So this person didn't use any of her songs during the dungeon, NONE of them. Not even a wanderer's minuet, army's paeon whatever. He constantly lost her dots because he didn't remember to use iron jaws. He was at the last list on aggro list almost always. We are both mentors, me and hubby, but we weren't wearing our crowns because we don't like it outside of mentor roulettes. My problem is, if you are wearing your crown, you HAVE to do at least a decent job you are playingThat bard was lv69 and she had no idea how to play bard. She didn't give any tips to any of us (especially tank, who was struggling), she was really awful at her job and she was wearing that crown. I, imo, wanted to kick her but we didn't because my hubby is more compassionate :P though i don't understand the meaning behind this mentor system around these players. If you suck, if you don't want to help, don't put a crown because it is fancy. It is meant to help people, not your ego. And actually we had quitted using our crowns outside mentor roulettes because whenever we try to help other people (me mostly) i get a huge backlash. I still remember that astrologian who didn't use A SINGLE card in syrcus tower. I had pointed out and i was almost put on fire because i was acting ''elitist''. I just said why play astro if you won't shuffle cards... People are ignorant and don't accept help most of the time. But mentor system is here to help and improve people by those ''who know the basics of every kinda job or dol, doh or pvp'' in the game whatever. So i encourage people not to wear the crown if you suck and unwillingly to help. It is not the system that is bad, it is players imo.
