I just can't wait to have my own private area in general. So I can sit in it alone sipping top shelf vodka away from the commoners.

Thank you! I am so glad that something is finally not being handed to us and that we have to earn it. ; ; this makes me so happy. I am glad that the developers are listening to the ones that don't just play games to complete them, but play them to have a fun and challenging experience.Just to clarify any confusion about the differences between private rooms (like the inns in 1.21) and personal housing, I wanted to share a few details on the two. Personal housing and inns are completely separate entities and inns will not turn into housing in the future.
Inns are private areas, but you don’t own them, so you are not able to add furniture, etc. In the housing that is planned for 2.0, players will be able to customize many aspects of their housing including furniture, but it will be difficult for players to be able to own a home. Due to the difficulty of obtaining a house, we will be preparing inns as private areas for players to use until they own their own home.
We will be providing more details about inns soon, so hang on a bit for that announcement.
Inns are a very worrisome concept to me. In FFXI you would only use inns to gain access to some extra storage (forwhich we now have retainers) AND change jobs...Just to clarify any confusion about the differences between private rooms (like the inns in 1.21) and personal housing, I wanted to share a few details on the two. An no doubt you also mean something you need to get a full group for as well, probably level 50 in instance-only drop gear, because nothing short of content needing a full group is 'effort', amirite? Please define difficult sir... Something harder than having it handed to us after talking to an NPC? Like having to annihilate a crowd of level 1 Star Marmots on our Level 50 job? Or something where you actually have to exert ef...eff... effort. That's the word! (Forgot what the word was actually called since you rarely have to use it when playing FF14).
There's no incentive to get a house if we can just rent a room and make it what we want. I don't think the purpose of private inns are for you to sit in all day so why make it customisable?Give me back my catching on others rather than passing through them as if they aren't there, drawing weapons at a believable speed, world entities that behave according to their nature rather than one of two universal ways, monsters that I don't have to be inside to be in striking range of, and bring things back to where Forra's pants don't fly off the second he puts his hand on a scythe, and then we'll talk about realism.
And did you miss the bit where I suggested limiting it to realistic levels? I don't think there's an inn on the planet would really go, "NO, YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT PHOTO OF YOUR FAMILY ON THE BEDSIDE TABLE!" and allowing little adjustments such as that would be a nice way to tell lower level players, "No, you're not being deliberately shafted because you're not in an uber-rich endgame guild. There's just a lot more to look forward to."
I wouldn't buy a house if I could fully customise the inn room~ Sure maybe it would be nice if we could add small things!! Bayohne say that there would be no customisation, but that could still be changed if the player base wanted it.
Kalm yo't..iles ~ don't go off at people for disagreeing with you dear~
"Geez.. 'wish I had the will to not respond to stupid, spiteful quips like that. But.. bleh."
the only reason to use them will be to gain "rested" xp.

Okay, this part first..There's no incentive to get a house if we can just rent a room and make it what we want. I don't think the purpose of private inns are for you to sit in all day so why make it customisable?

Again.. maybe look again at my post? Please? You've missed two things.
1: I did not argue for full customisability, I argued for something between minimal and moderate interior customisability beside the full internal and external customisability of the housing system. As a.. what's the word.. stopgap? Something in between, to tide players over and give a little to players 'aren't in a free company that's managed to acquire a Company Estate, so they don't feel shafted.
2: Even if the inn rooms did have full internal customisability, you seem to be forgetting that player houses will have gardens (in which chocobo can be raised, plus other suggested possibilities like customisation and gardening/botany), customisable/upgradeable exteriors, other houses around them (community), and 'possibly basements where larger scale crafting projects can be done'.
As for this part ... I didn't 'go off at people for disagreeing'. The bit you quoted there concerned this:
That isn't a disagreement; that's somewhere between derision and an insult. Picking on other forum-goers' opinions, forcing conclusions about their preferences, misrepresenting their posts, and making insinuations about their upbringing is stupid and spiteful.

Thanks for the info. It is unfortunate, however that the rooms at Inns (for 1.21) are just temporary, for rent (i.e., not a place you call your own).
If you can ask Yoshida-san to clarify:
- In 2.0, is there going to be *Personal Housing* (Individual) in addition to "Player Estates" (that are tied to Companies)?
It would be very unfortunate if the only "Personal Housing" we had in 2.0 was tied to a Player-run Company (that you had to join). All Players should be allowed to earn and gain their own Private Home, regardless of if you join a Player Company or not.
- So before 2.0, is this rented room at the Inn the only residence we'll be getting?

(Which means we probably won't be getting any Special Storage / Additional Housing Inventory for the near future.
Thanks!
Great... Th subject on the thread was changed...
