Need a little help!

I recently bought a house and am trying to get some ideas on what to do in it. I came across the site housingsnap.com and found something I really like:

In the first picture, they created sort of a raised floor by combining some stuff. It gives the dark brown wood on the side and a pure white top to whatever it is that is being placed.

Anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this? I have looked (well not everywhere) but I cannot seem to find anything that matches up to that. I have tried coloring a Hingan Sideboard and turning it around, but I can only change it to one color. Is something being placed on an item like that to give it the white top? Or am I completely missing something here.

Looks like they have the back of a bunch of the eorzean maps facing outward for the dark wood portion, it's not just one piece of furniture.

I just didn't know what keywords to look for but that helped a lot. Was a pain, but I figured out how to place those Eorzean Maps with watching a couple of videos on it. Couldn't get them exactly to line up like in the pictures from that site, but close enough for my liking.
