Currently, the intended gameplay loop of gaining EXP Chains in single-party camps has almost entirely been supplanted by large, multiple-party groups roaming the map to quickly spawn Notorious Monsters. The reason is obvious: participating in NM hunts has the overwhelming advantage over EXP Chains when comparing rewards versus time invested.
I have a few ideas for balancing Eureka content to make the intended play style less tedious and hopefully more appealing than the current constant NM trains. However, I do not mean to cut NMs out or diminish their place in the gameplay loop; I think they're fun, but should supplement EXP Chain camps rather than be the main focus of Eureka content. (This is considering a form of Level Sync being a guaranteed addition, as mentioned in a recent article, which is why I didn't add it to the list. Otherwise, it'd have been the first item.)
EXP Chain Treasure Coffers
In addition to Protean Crystal drops, add Treasure Coffer drops to EXP Chains. The contents of these coffers are awarded to the entire party, and may contain Protean Crystals or Anemos Crystals, Elemental EXP, refill the party's Magia Aether or Limit Break meter, or provide several of these benefits at once with higher chains. This addition is meant to give EXP Chains more appeal than they currently have through a greater variety of rewards.
Notorious Monster Spawn Items
Very rarely, regular monsters or Treasure Coffers may drop a unique item used to forcibly spawn a particular NM of level range comparable to the monster defeated. The function of these pop items is similar to a Treasure Map (usable only within a certain range of map coordinates), causing an NM battle to begin immediately, independent of other spawn conditions, and identical to an NM spawned via those conditions.
Notorious Monster Unique Drops
A handful of NMs currently have unique items that have a fair chance of dropping upon defeat. (Or rarely in lockboxes.) Since Eureka Anemos is stylistically emulating Final Fantasy XI, I'd like to post a reminder that in FFXI, every NM had a unique drop. Please consider adding special items to the rest of the NMs!
Crystal Exchange Shop
Do away with Anemos Lockbox drops and simply make those items available via exchange for certain quantities of Protean and/or Anemos Crystals. The number of lockboxes obtainable in a single session of NM hunting is rather high, and the excitement of anticipation drops off considerably when identifying the contents of more than a couple dozen lockboxes at a time. I'd rather have a goal to aim toward for the special items I really want, rather than leave it to chance (and tedium).
