Help me getting back into FFXIV !

Hi everyone !

I just came back to FFXIV today after something like ... a 2 years break i think ?
The last time i played i remember Crystal Tower and the Bahamut raid being the end game content.

So, i'm trying to get back into it.
The thing is, although i play as a healer, apparently no one is queuing for the lower level dungeons (like the Praetorium), so i can't farm the last tomes i needed two years ago to buy the remaining pieces of my equipment.

I would like to know, how should i get back into the game ? My current iLvl is 90, but i don't know what to do since i can't find people to do the lower lvl content of the game.

Also, on another note, i live in Japan, so i'm playing on a japanese server.

Does anyone else know how much ping i would get if i switched to US ?

I checked the data, and there's way more players on US servers, so it might be easier for me to restart there.

I'm kind of lost here and would appreciate any kind of help !

I wouldn't bother with finishing an Ironworks set. Nobody really runs the msq roulette because they made the cut scenes unskippable, not because it's low-level. Just run HW with what you have right now and replace with dungeon gear as you go and you'll be fine. You could use vendor gear and it would be okay, just try update when you level and it's cool.

Ping is around 180-250 range.

There is crafted i110 gear, i90 should be enough for the first hw dungeon but you really need some upgrades. If you do buy 110/115 gear off the MB make sure it is high quality, otherwise I am fairly sure your i90 is better then low quality 110 gear. SE killed queue times for the MSQ roulette due to a change in 4.2. They force people view CS since that patch. (I have been outspoken on this change here trying to explain why that change needs to be reversed. Half bake ideas help no one.)

You can also simply level to 60 using a place called palace of the dead. This place does give you poetics, just keep in mind you need to access a level 60 place locked behind level 59? I think? MSQ to spend poetics to buy level 60-ilevel 260 gear (along with items to make them 270) Also note PoTD, you can level there in level 1 gear, what you wear has no effect in performance, like how PvP is now as well.

You should focus on completing the main story quests. The quests will provide you with item-level relevant gear as you go along. There is a main story scenario quest name object in your HUD to show you your next mandatory quest.

As far as completing your current set goes after looking at your Lodestone profile, most of them are either obtained now from dungeons or Allied Seals from hunts. You'll have to farm poetic tomestones if you want to buy the tome gear from Revenant's Toll (and a certain other place that I won't spoil just yet.)

There are also sidequests in blue symbols showing that there is additional content such as dungeons, trials, and other stuff.

If you try to queue dungeons in a Japanese server, be sure to click on the small cogwheel circle and click the "J" on the Language settings since you're on a Japanese server. That will pair you up with people who chose the "J" language setting as well.

One more thing, the cutscenes in Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium are now unskippable, but you'll gain more Poetic Tomestones and EXP. YMMV on how you use the view the rewards and use poetics for gearing up your main and alt classes. Queues are a little longer. But if you choose the "J" language setting, your queue times on that region will go down faster (especially if you're a healer). Speaking of queue times since Vstarstruck brought it up just now, queue times resuling from this change really only hurt DPS players, especially newer ones. However, I still get fast queues in Main Scenario Roulette as tank or healer on my end.

Depending on where you were at in the MSQ you might just be able to jump back into the story. They added gear rewards pre-HW that took you up to basically i110 before you got to the expansion content. Aside from that, you could que into the CT raids or even the higher dungeons(KotL, Amdapor hard) and get a decent chunk of poetics to complete your gear. They added roulettes for those level 50(4 man) dungeons and the alliance raids, so they should fill reasonable quick if youre playing at a time when there are enough people around(also assuming your language options are set right). As for the ping, i couldnt honestly tell you. I have LS friends as far away from the servers as eastern europe and australia, and they dont complain about it(though that might just mean they decided to live with it since theyre playing on a NA server when they live elsewhere).

Actually, it seems somehow my language settings were reset (probably because i changed computer), so they weren't on japanese anymore.
But now i changed them back and i get queued in dungeons in less than 5 minutes !

I'll just do the ones i haven't done yet for fun and then do the MSQ like you recommend.

Let me know if there's anything else i should be aware of, since i haven't played the game for ages !

If you play on JP prime time I think it'll be better to stay. You might find NA servers a little bit empty at that time.
Valefor is one of the lowest pop server so if you want see more people in the open world you can always try servers like Chocobo, Shinryu, Bahamut, Tonberry. Though it's much harder to buy a house on those servers.

You can do a ping test to see how it is.
