If that's the reddit thread, that guy was level 19 when he did it, and tbh it looks like he folded in fate exp by mistake or something; the values seem off, without exp buffs every 5 levels
Oh no, Squeenix is forcing me to play the game. Make it stop. I hate games.
Wanting to be able to advance at their own pace, even if slower, doesn't mean they don't want to play the game. My friend in game often needs to take breaks to take care of things, and the eureka model is horrid because you can't do that; you have to stay close to the pc to react to a fate when it is up, or you constantly play chaining mobs. If she needs to put the dogs out, she can't even stay in eureka; it boots you if you are afk for ten minutes. So if you can't devote a decent amount of unbroken time per night, it gets frustrating.

It is really impossible to please everyone.Wanting to be able to advance at their own pace, even if slower, doesn't mean they don't want to play the game. If your friend need constantly AFK, why not join a NM train.
As long as s/he is not constant afk and leeching, no one really cares.
After lvl 20, exp doesnt even matter anymore, it is about amount of protean crystals you are getting.
It used to be 1 for 20 chain, 5 to 10 for 30 chain, and 10 to 15 for 40 chain ..etc.
They already boost amount of the crystals for chain bonus with this hotfix
They need to go afk for semi-decent breaks for real life on occasion. They aren't afk all the time, but the train never stops or afks, and the zone prevents you from going back to town and afking for more than ten minutes. But if you were doing normal relics, you can just break after each roulette or dungeon, and you don't take up space in a party or premade. She plays the game fine, but we don't have parties agreeing to take breaks like they did back in FFXI, and the fate train party never needs to stop for a person to replace another with.
It's not that they don't play the game, it's more that the style of play forces you to be at keys for long periods of time.

It starts slow but the thing is as you get higher levels, you get more EXP from Notorious Monsters, as many of the ones done by train NM parties are 12+. So at higher levels you'll get the FULL EXP amount which is often 20-30% of your EXP gauge. 1-10 was painful because I would get 2-3k exp per NM. But once I was 12 and no longer getting the warning message from the FATE about being severely underleveled and receive an exp penalty, I started getting 15-20k exp from FATEs. After that, I went from like 12-17 in a single night, and then 17-20 the next night. This is going to be the premier mid level content for casuals until the next raid tier comes out, and even after that it will be popular because once you get your weekly items, its just Eureka and Dungeons. But Eureka is more dynamic and rewarding than dungeons. In fact, you can cap your weekly tomes in a day or two doing this, all while getting tons of loot to sell to an NPC (I made about 600k just NPCing the trash Tier 5/6 and Demimateria III's), and upgrading your gear for various jobs. Just doing Eureka a few hours per night and I have 3 finished weapons and a ton of armor

Boring is subjective. What's boring is doing NM trains for 10 hours. But NMs were meant to be rare bonuses that people uncover by accident or whatever. It wasn't meant to be a train fest. The idea was to chain mobs together in full parties, moving from mob type to mob type as you increased in level just like you would in a dungeon, but less of an obvious endpoint compared to a dungeon. It was meant to be more casual than a dungeon but slowly allow you to get free gear that's on par with Sigmascape equipment minus the weekly lockout.
