Add Blue Mages Already

If they are going to add another tank like BLU, who I assume would use a shield and mace, it would be nice if they divided the tank sets between "heavy" and "medium" designs for war/drk and pld/blu respectively. I'm sure some people will be against it but I'm sure more people would be adverse to having to have one tank set for four tanks. They could also just lock glam set to the armor slot loadout instead of the armor piece if they want to fix it without much effort.

I'm only advocating for a tank BLU simply for the fact that MNK needs a synergy with a tank and BLU could bring a blunt debuff.

ON how a blue mage should play. I think it would be cool if a blue mage had a gunblade. Then used either damage dealt or damage taken to covert into a boot to use on big spender enemy attacks. Kind of like the reverse of the current red mage. As they don't use alot of magic as it's mainly only from thier spender than it would work well to give them a meaty weapon to play with while building up resource.

The whole dual sword thing is dumb, because in this game damage is compiled rather than each slash counting as a hit. So what’s the point?

I agree with this idea. I think I sad as much a few post ago.

Thinking they have bullets as one resource gauge that allows them to extract aether from enemies. With this aether they then use their blue magic abilities.

Might also be interesting if their tank niche was to be the tank with a raise.

To be honest I'd be really disappointed if Blue Mage was tied to the Garlean magitek lore. I'd much rather see Gunblades used to make a ranged or dex-melee DPS. Either is good imo. This is mostly because it's a way to give a nod to the later FF games that had magic/melee hybrid dps characters, including a few that used Gunblades like Squall/Lightning. I doubt they'd reference those two too heavily but their Dissidia iterations have a lot of inspiration to draw from.

That's not to say that I wouldn't enjoy seeing a Blue Mage, but I think it's more likely to come from one of the provinces in the way to Garlemald, rather than someone from Garlemald itself, perhaps they wind up in Doma as a refugee due to the civil unrest in their area, which we're likely to be trailblazing through in the next expansion if we follow Thancred.

I'm for it being a tank, mostly because I suspect it'll use a resource that relies on getting hit to access its blue magic if it is made into a tank, and like many have suggested, learn its abilities from quests rather than the overworld. I actually think it may borrow from some concepts in SMN and WAR's respective lores, specifically tapping into the aether that was washed over them by the primals and activating it in order to enhance themselves at the cost of subjecting themselves to some of the influence of the primals. Basically it would be a soft-tempered/drowned/etc state that preserves the caster's mind but gives them the ability to learn monster abilities and transform temporarily in order to use them. I can see it as a Melee DPS or a Caster DPS, but healer is highly unlikely. Given its healing abilities are limited but applicable as utility I suspect it'll fit better as a tank or Caster than as a melee.

In all likelihood it'll use Maces (2H or 1H, possibly dual wielded) regardless of its eventual role, unless there's another class planned to use those down the line. And Heavy armor fits if the intent is to get hit. It'll likely share armor with Dragoon if it's a melee dps for that reason too.

If Blue Magic and its associated quests are tied to learning from the beasts and creatures of the natural world, I'd be surprised if it was based on magitek. I'd expect more of a tie in to the Beast Tribes (or perhaps even Thavnarian alchemy) in place of Garlemald. I also think that heavy armor and bladed weapons are over-represented with tanks at the moment. You need an aesthetic that feels different from the present tanks.

I'm personally hoping that Blue Magic incorporates shape-shifting, perhaps in the same vein as Vincent Valentine's beast forms.

Either way, here's hoping for a tank which doesn't use slashing damage. At the very least, let it be an excuse to put an end to that awful slashing debuff for good.

Thats pretty fair they are all slashing based.

That said just because the guy has a gun blade doesn't mean they need heavy army. COuld easily use light armor or something. While using some sort of magetek field generator for protection.

Just look at the one user we know of. that could easily be a blue mage. That person has pretty light looking armor. While the blue mage class quest line could totally have a "getting back to nature/balance with nature vibe"

Plus vicent's beast form even that is kind of magetek because that is a result of experimentation done by cerberus. If you go a route of Blue mage being kind of a cruel job about stealing the aether from beast to gain access to mana, but doing the job quest it turns into more of a quest to bring balance and harmoney to the aether of hydallynn or something.

Edit: Also gunblades like squals aren't really ranged weapons, they are melee weapons that have an explosive edge when the trigger is pulled. While lightining weapon transforms into either a gun or a blade.

It really depends on the blue mage iteration we're talking about. If it winds up as a caster it'll likely be still be in melee range a lot given the sheer number of attacks that still demand being close up that are among the recurring Blue Magic. If the devs really go off the rails and focus heavily on the beast tribes there's more room for traditional spells but I'd expect an angry reaction as a result of that. The only reason for it to be a caster though is because of White Wind/Angel's Whisper, which would most realistically translate into a Medica cooldown and Raise respectively. Every other recurring support ability can be adapted to work in any other role.
